Hey guys im thinking of swapping out my engine in my 240sx for a engine that came stock with turbos instead of trying to put a turbo kit on my KaDe engine. I was curious what stock turboed engines that are street legal in America (no Sr or Sb series) you would recommend. I was thinking of putting a VG30DETT from a 300zx, a 4G69 turbro from a lancer evo, or even perhaps a twin turbo DOHC 24v V6 twin turbo from a dodge stealth or mistubishi GT3000 VR4, or a 2jz-GTE from a supra (these last two would probably be hard to get) Anyways.....i'm fairly new to this so any help on the engine swap ideas would be greatly apprecieated!!

1Jz or ls1 (no turbos obviously)

Being a 96, you may have to pass obd2 inspection, so you will need a 96+ motor/ecu for whatever you go with.

And the 4g69 was not turboed. 4g63 was.

Neither one of those Mitsu motors will really work due to the fact they were designed to be transversally mounted in a car or in other words sideways like most front wheel drives. Therefore the trannys and engine are not suitable to be longitudinally mounted. I know in some cases fwd or transverse mounted motors can be modified to fit rear drive cars, great example being 4age 20valve, and 3sge from the mr2 being put in toyota AE86's but those are still toyota motors going into a toyota. Besides why disgrace an S14 or any Nissan for that matter with a DSM engine? It all depends on time and budget. Also what kind of power are you expecting? As mentioned before the LS1 is an option but very expensive, involved swap and time consuming. The vg turbo would be cool but again expensive, and consider the added weight on the nose. Why are you against boosting the ka? I'm by no means an expert ,and I personally wouldn't build one but it seems the easiest route for sure to keep emissions and maintain a smoggable car.

Just an idea, Get a VH45DE from junkyard for $300, manual transmission from 300z spend the turbo money on driveshaft/ mounts and other parts. Boooom big a$$ motor for you.

^not to mention stand alone ecu and tuning ....or the headache of getting the bcm to work with the ecu, laser cut key to work and read correctly etc. It would be bad a** though.

This is all very true. Many of the same problems occur with any swap i think, some more than others. I just thought it was pretty cool that my friend bought a DOHC V8 for $280 from pick n pull, not sure what hes done with ECU tuning, not really sure if he finished it yet LOL.

Yeah I learned all about those swaps and the vq35 swaps from a Nissan dealer mechanic that did this 35 page how to...kinda, on here. Very educational.
