I just wanted to know which engine would be best for daily driving because i need to drive the car and not have it poop out on me. I have own a ka24e and it loves to crap out on my a lot and the timing chain love to go out on me even dough i replace it three times after six months with different Japanese brands of kits. The compression on the motor is fine but the funny thing is that my buddies with the Ka24de has never replace anything on the motor except for the usual parts like the starter, alter, and battery. The other funny thing is that they own there cars longer than i owned mine and they never had to replace the timing chain ever and i just want to know what you guys thing between the two motors.

3 times in 6 months, sounds like you didn't do something right. I have 2 E's and have owned a DE, both deliver the same reliability.

both are verry reliable...but if your looking for just a dayly..then might i suggest a honda accord...they run forever..rarely break down and you dont even have to care about the oil condition..its just a honda...then..you can sell the sportscar you own and make a profit !...good luck

The E has more moving parts. IE rocker arms and such. The DE is cam on bucket, no rockers but has an extra chain to turn both cams. both suffer from failing guides. Other than that, they are the same engine. There is no right answer here. If you already have an E, drive it. I have one, hasn't let me down yet for any reason other than poor mechanic work by the previous owner. I've never had a DE but of all my friends with DEs, their problems are just like mine. It's the same with basically any Japanese made vehicle. Honda, Nissan, Toyota (Japanese made, not american made Toyota). Any motor will last with timely and proper maintenance.

I have both. I have a sohc ka I/h/e daily driver, and my fun car is a dohc ka-t. The dohc definitely seems a lot smoother, even out of boost. Both very well maintained and whatnot. I say the dohc is more smooth but if you've already got the sohc then keep it.

id say kae, less moving parts, less matinence if u maintain it properly. anything can last 300,000+ if just know how to maintain it.
