im looking to buy a 95-98 240sx and want to go pretty much from ground up. the thing is i play college hockey so i cant work during the season and the money they give us to live on is very small amount. i really want to swap in a rb25 or rb26 and do some minor mods to start until next summer. but am i better off going with the sr20?? what do you think is the best way to go. i really want to go with the RB, and just make it a nice project build.

I am sorry, but that is incredibly dumb. If you are going to be living off small amounts of money, the last thing you want to do is swap your engine. Drive it stock, get a feel for the car, and then mod it next summer when you have the time and money. You can wait a year to drive past the local high school and chirp the girls with your BOV right?

i have plenty of money to do the swap, and have some left over. we get everything paid for at school. ill have time to work on it. im more concerened with teh availability of parts for the RB vs. the sr20. and the cost of those.

Oh ok. It seemed like you would be scrounging around to pay for it all. Besides the KA, SR is the easiest to get parts for, and they can generally be had for less than the RB.

probably the best thing to do is this.

1. get the car2. commit to repairs that are neededexamples: if it's a daily driver, although it's still summer, consider replacing the weather stripping while it's still sunny and what not so when the wet winter comes around, you're not gonna be posting "uh, where's this water coming from." Another great idea is to overhaul the suspension. Your bushings are more likely than not already toast and need replacement along with your wheel bearings. There are other things that will need repair before you dump in another motor in there and will only make the smaller problems seem alot bigger when you're going alot faster.
