From what I've gathered at this board, the KA24E is good if you're going NA.....KA24DE is good for boost!

Well, of course everyone's going to pick the DE because it has more horses stock for stock.

The question should have been: Should I spend money on swaping out my E for the DE, or spend it on modding the E?

Its hard to find parts for a SOHC KA turbo setup. Mainly the manifold, only one company I know has a kit for the KA24E. I would switch to the DOHC setup regardless of stock HP numbers, its just a better engine IMHO. It wouldnt be that expensive, this guy in the Buy/Sell section is selling his tweaked KA24DE with 30K miles for 900 obo...

The KA24DE is a much better engine. It offers updated technology(SOHC vs. DOHC) and has a potential for more power than the E. If you are going to turbo it, there are some cool parts avaialble or you can fab your own.

I would stay with the E, its about as complicated as swaping to a SR or CA engine, to swap to the DE. Its ture that there are less parts for the SOHC. As for the DE being more advanced just because of the DOHC, maybe a little. both engines arent really technology loaded engines, and both have advantiges and disadvantiges. the bigest advantage of the DE over the E is aftermaket. as for one making more HP then the other when moded, they should both be about as close as they are now,(give or take 15 hp) so there really isnt much of a preformance difrence.

that 900+ spent swaping to a DE, could be spent on parts for your E. They only reson i would swap is if my engine died, wait i take that back, my engine did die, and i just rebuilt the engine with forged bottom end. If your not comfortable building a turbo setup for your car, then it might be better for you to swap to an SR then DE if you want go turbo.

I agree with jrc90240sx the ka24de makes 15 more hp with higher compression and one more cam you could tune 4 more psi of booost and make that back.

i own a ka24e...and have worked on ka24de's...and the sohc motor is far nicer and simpler to work on....plus they are cheap.....as far as power potential..yes the dohc is slightly higher...how much? maybe 3-5% more power? in that range i would guess...but it still weighs more..

if you already have the SOHC keep it unless your gettin a deal for the ka24de - other than that keep the engine - there lighter and have alot of potential . unless if your planning of pushing out 500 to 600 HP then id go de but id stick with the ka24e
