Hi there, I am looking to buy an EMS so I can boost up.

I heard that with stock ECU the engine knocks after 12psi, and it's a hard detonation, that's why I am trying to see what EMS is better (price / functionallity)

In order of preference:
  • NIStune Type II - $550
  • AEM Series 1/2 - $1800
  • Z1 EPROM (non programmable)
  • Megasquirt (don't know if it works with z32)
Please let me know. For price and everything I prefer NIStune.

Stock ECU is totally fine above 12 psi, assuming you have suitable injectors, proper fuel octane, and a good chip that is burned to your specific mods.

Nistune is not a stand-alone EMS - it still retains all stock components including MAF. But it is a good option for that reason - price and easy usability.

If you don't need the features of a standalone EMS (which it doesn't sound like you do), then just get your ECU socketed for a chip and order a chip from Specialty Z. Tell them exactly all of your mods and what octane fuel you have in your area.

I've looked for haltech but is way expensive than AEM, wich other features would I be missing with a standalone that I probably will need. I think nistune using stock sensors is ok. For price.

I don't really see the point of going with anything but NISTUNE if staying with a nissan engine (VG, RB, VH, VK). The only reason I would ever see for going to a standalone (other than NIstune) is if you have reached a power level where the mafs are limiting your gains and need to be exchanged for a MAP system (remeber MAFs can be used in blowthrough configuration)

Thanks, this is the answer that I needed! I am right now looking for prices for a NIStune and a Innovate wideband (going to do the single configuration, until I have money for dual or not needed?).

Is this by puting the MAF after the turbo right? When is good to do this?

Ebay has the cheapest prices for innovates that I've seen - that's what I plan to go with as well. dual is always better if you want real-time monitoring of both banks. It's not extremely likely that you'll ever need to use both at the same time, but it's cheap insurance IMO - $100 and could save your engine. But your plan for a single is totally fine until budget allows.

I mostly agree with using Nistune vs standalone EMS. But I will say that it is actually more cost effective to use a full standalone EMS in the long-run rather than buying a JS knock controller, datalogger, boost controller, traction control, selin translator, extra maf, Nistune, etc. It's all about your current budget and your goals since it is a large up-front cost. Nistune only recently provided more accomodations for E85 so it is more valuable now than before in that regard.

Yes, a bit unconventional but possible.

This. (He means at any time. Ever. If you can mechanically do it, then do.)
