which ecu tuner, injectors, and mass air meter?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

i am in the process of building a n/a ka for my 93 hatch. i am shooting for about 250-265 chp. going .40 over with 10.5 to 1 pistons ,head reworked. intake, 2.5 exhaust, underdrive pulley, electric fan, egr-aiv blocked off. what would be my best bet for a tuned ecu? jwt or enthalpy? or others i havent read about yet (and possibly safc), what size injectors( if any bigger with that kind of hp), and which ecu? z32 or cobra or q45.. and what is the up and down side for each?

You need a daughterboard for your ecu, a couple eprom chips, and an eprom programmer.

Why pay jwt or enthalpy to do it when you can yourself?

how user friendly is programming? i am pretty good with computers .(used to ummm test directv cards) but have never played with car electronics.

Panda has had a lot of success with his HALTECH E8 system, but its a little expensive and he is running ITBs, might be overkill for you.

Speaking of sound/vid clips, I should have one by the end of the week. My little brother called me and said hes got a camera and a friend that can encode it and all that. I havent run my car for a while (under snow), but ill fire it up and do some shots.

But about the programming, it is very easy. The ka24de s13 is just a tad more difficult and slightly more expensive because it requires a daughterboard with 2 seperate chips. The ka24e is as easy as it gets, one chip, quick and easy programming.

Once you get a daughterboard, a chip burner, and some chips, your set. You simply need to solder a 40 pin header into the ecu, move a single board jumper (to enable the external board rom), and then burn and install the two chips onto the daughterboard.

Here is what an s13 ka24de 240sx daughterboard looks like, these are my personal design that I sell, but you can get similar ones from a variety of places for $40-80. This is the same thing JWT and other ecu criminals are doing, save some money and do it yourself.

deviousKA is very right... programming is extremly user friendly. I knew nothing about tuning and just got done burning some roms for my SR that worked perfect the first time!!

Nice work need2drift!

To clarify for anyone wondering, the ecu tuning procedure for an sr ecu is the same for an s13 ka24de. They use the same type of daughterboards, so if you see a board advertised for an sr20de or det, you can use it and the same methods for your s13 ka24de.

Exception being s14 sr's and ka's, those are a bit different.

devious---does that 40 come with the chips or no? and if not where can i get them from? and what program can i use to tune the chips? i think i am going to try to do this myself..yall have convinced me.. i just ordered the blazt consult cable and software..i want to start monitoring that and get used to what i see..tuning the map is as easy as changing a few variables?

and for the horsepower i am shooting for is upgrading the injectors and afm really needed? i have heard several times that the ka is just born a rich running motor..and if thats true is it rich enough to fuel the mods i am planning?

Hey guys, Im a bit short on board kits or complete units, I didnt intend to market them to heavily. My boards are known as "odd-even" style, when burning chips for these one extra step is involved (odd/even split). This type of design utilizes the space on the chips better than some, but can be a tad more difficult to use. With an odd/even type, you can fit 2 tunes on 2x 256 chips, with a "skip" board like plms and calums, 2x 256 chips would only allow a single tune. You can always use larger chips for more space for extra tunes (checkout plms).

You can get more deluxe and easier to use boards from PLMS (http://plmsdevelopments.com/) or from Calum over at sr20forums. These are a bit more expensive but they come with chips and are ready to install.

I usually sell my boards for like 35-40 for a diy kit, without chips. I dont have any kits for sale but I have some bare pcb (circuit boards) for 25. You can order all of the parts to complete for like 15 bucks from electronic shop.

struckinc, if anything you may be doing some leaning to your fueling. You will more than likely be seeing more gains from working with the timing maps.

The Datascan software is very nice, you will definately be satisfied with the bang for the buck. One thing you might wanna know is that the s13 ka24de does not currently support the maptracing feature of datascan. A few certain rom addresses need to be found is all, there are people working on it over at the eccs forums.

The only KA ecu that publicly supports the maptrace feature is the U12 ka24e stanza, or australian U12 ka24e. These ecus can be swapped right into 89-90 240sx or 90-94 d21 truck.
