I have an 89 S13, originally a SOHC, and I am swapping to a DOHC. The motor going in is a temporary motor until my other is done. The plan then was to build the high compression motor and splice in what I needed from a DOHC harness into the SOHC harness but I got a whole DOHC car to part out so I got the harness and ECU. First plan was to splice the injectors and dist, all the rest looked the same.
Am I better off splicing the harness to keep the SOHC or swapping it all for the DOHC ECU and harness? From what I read a while back the SOHC ECU is easier to tweak, but the aftermarket seems to go towards the DOHC.
Soon down the road will be a high compression DOHC motor w/ the head and intakes ported and polished, everything not needed to make it run will be removed, (EGR, lower butterflies, any and all sensors ETC that it doesnt take to run) and a shot of N2O for grins so I am more concerned about which will be best for THAT motor and to make the stocker run for now. Although part of me is thinking about turboing the new motor w/ stock compression w/ my head and intakes.
Also, what part # would the DOHC ECU be so I can be sure that is what is in this car...it was not running and the ECU was laying on the floor. And no I didnt get the car running before pulling it all apart, the transmission was out and I didnt feel like putting it all together just to test fire it and take it all back apart. Even if the motor is junk its no big deal, atleast Ill have the wiring done for the DOHC motor and it doesnt take long to pull a KA.
