I have set the whole day aside tomorrow to detail Skyler (my car). I'm going to clay bar it, use a swirl remover and wax it. I have horrible swirl marks and overspray from when those idiots fixed my bumper and ding.

Question....which would you do first, the clay bar or the swirl remover?

I will post before and after pics!

I believe you should use a swirl remover first... but won't clay barring it pretty much do the trick anyways??

It was my understanding that the claybar would remove any polish including swirl remover types.....

Sure LL....bring it on.

I wonder if the swirl remover would cut through the overspray and I wouldn't even need to do both.

I think I will just test some spots and see what works best.

Clay bar and then swirl remover. If you do the clay bar second, it will remove any swirl remover compound from the car I believe. I could be wrong, but thats how I've always been told to do it.

That does make sense. The clay would remove any impurities on the paint, therefore, you would not be grinding them into the paint when you do the swirl remover.

Yeah clay first to make sure you get rid of all the surface crap. You don't want to use a swirl removal on a rough/dirty surface.

Don't forget thepictures once you done.

+1 Yup, this is how you wanna do it. You don't want to use swirl remover with crap on the surface that can create more swirls. A good hand polish will remove swirls and polish the paint. Follow that up with a good wax to protect paint and you're set.

I would advise a quick clean, then clay bar then swirl/scratch remover. If you clay without cleaning, your clay bar will be all waded up with crap and you may risk additional scratches!

Damn - black cars are soooo hard to keep clean that I have sworn to never again buy one.

Good luck, have fun and post some pics of your black beauty when you are done!
