Might be a stupid question because for all I know the clutches are interchangeable...

I am putting '92 5-speed onto a '95 motor (transplant a '95 motor into my '92 hatch using my original transmission). I want to run the ACT Street/Strip clutch, but for some reason they specify between S13 and S14 model years.

My initial thought was to buy based on the year of the transmission because I think the block is the same. Does anyone know for sure?

Buy based on the transmission. If I remember correctly, the clutches and flywheels are similar, but the release/throwout bearings are different.Thats IF I heard correctly, which I am confident is the case.

Makes sense. Worse case I will keep it for when my old motor is rebuilt again.

I'll search a little more, then just buy the S13 clutch kit if I don't find anything.

I have a 95 motor with a 91 trans. I have the act heavy duty clutch kit with a 11lb. fidanza flywheel. All of this was purchased for a 93 motor. I replaced the act throw out bearing with an oem nissan from a 93. I recently started to hear grinding when the car is in gear when the clutch pedal is at its engagement or disengagement point. could this be caused by the release/throwout bearing being different. Sorry for the threadjack.

Why did you decide to use the OEM throw out bearing vs. the one supplied by ACT?

I may need to call ACT to get to the bottom of this so I can get the right clutch kit.

The act t.o.b was making way to much noise and when i took it out to change it it wasnt abel to spin as freely as the nissan oem t.o.b. It had only been in for about 5000 miles. Everything was broken in properly so I know thats not the cause of failure.

Well, I just sent an email to ACT to see if they can give any info about the differences with the kits.

I would like to call them but I have been getting off work too late. Lets see how quick they get back to thier emails...I'll let you know what I find out.

I am sure someone on NICO knows the answer to this though.

No word back from ACT. Just sent the question to AMS also.

I also did more research on this. The parts guy at the local dealer ran the throwout bearing and the pilot bushing part #'s for a '92 and a '95 and he said they were interchangeable. I am still unsure why ACT would specify a difference between their clutch kits...

Found the answer to my question and I am posting for anyone who searches later...

Just got word from ACT that you need to use the clutch kit based on the year of the transmission you will be using because the throw out bearings are different. See email below with ACT part #'s.

"Jon,I got your application mixed up. Since you are still using the 92' transmission you would need to use the application for that transmission which are the NX4-HDSS or NX4-XTSS kits. Both are ideal for street/race applications and the HD will hold up to 267 ft/lbs of torque and the XT will hold up to 333 ft/lbs of torque. Both kits come complete with the pressure plate, performance organic disc, release and pilot bearings, as well as the alignment tool.Regards,Richard BarzaghiCustomer Service/Sponsorships"

EDIT: Just got word from AMS also

"The difference is in the step on the flywheel. I am not sure which one hasthe step and which one does not. I would order according to the year of yourflywheel.

ThanksChris"
