Bought a special edition G37xS Sedan yesterday and noticed the front calipers look like sliding variety. I thought the S had 4 pot squeezers.

Or does the all-wheel drive dictate what brakes are on the front?

good question...Do the brake calipers have INFINITI on the side? I had an 09 G37S Sedan...not sure if it's different in the "X"version.

Negative.

The four piston calipers have the Infiniti cast in then.

It's the model car you have. The X has the standard brakes and wheels - 17". Only the Journey with the sport package and S (without the X) have the 18" wheels and bigger brakes. I don't know for a fact but speculate that it is because of the all wheel drive system.

All the 20th anniversary sedans have 18" wheels- even with AWD.

But it appears the calipers fit the same way. So upgrading to the Akebono calipers and larger rotors might just be a parts swap?

Might be time for a salvage visit!

The AWD Sport model didn't get the AKEBONO brakes for whatever reason.

Yes it is a parts swap and small sections of modifications to dust shields.

We carry the complete kit for bolt and go....AKEBONO Brake Kit

Thanks for the info. Weird they wouldn't install these brakes on the S version of the AWD cars. Though these seem to work just fine so far.

I'll look into this when it's time to replace the pads. They appear to be fairly fresh and the rotors look fine.

I'm looking to purchase a 2012 G37x in either the Sport or Sport Appearance. I'm planning to purchase the Akebono bigger breaks first thing. The Sports are much harder to find. So besides the seats and paddle shifters both of which I'm not totally sold on, Is there any real reason to get the Sport especially since I'm looking to switch out the breaks pretty quickly? I've been using 4 disc drilled & slotted breaks with the Hawk pads for 8+ years and really like them. At some point, I might even consider switching out the wheels so I'm leaning more towards the Appearance version so it is easier to find one. It doesn't seem like I'd really benefit from waiting on finding a Sport. Are there any shock or handling differences between the Sport or non-Sport models? Any thoughts or suggestions? Much appreciated.
From what I've found only the G37 6MT has the bigger breaks on it stock.

I believe the only other mechanical difference is the steering rack. It seems like the shift program is more aggressive than my G37x, but I haven't been able to confirm that.

Great.

So I got screwed out of all the "real" stuff!

Other than 18" wheels the anniversary package is fluff.

So yes, only the RWD Sport model gets the bigger breaks and tuned suspension so I still can't find any reason to get the xSport since it is harder to find and I'm nuts over the seats. I guess I'll keep focusing on the G37x w/ Sport Appearance. I'm not willing to go without the X in our winter roads. I can always add the paddles if I really care about them but not at this point. I might switch out the wheels anyways so again no point in the Sport.

Thanks for confirming.

Similar situation here. I bought my car at night and did not look at the brakes assuming the S (sport model) should have the sport brakes.

I asked a service adviser at the dealership and he said that they can't retroactively put sport brakes on my car, unless mine is a non-awd model.

So disappointing. I wonder if they don't want to modify the dust shield.

Well, I guess I have to stare at that awful looking brake calipers for many years to come.

They work and that is no too bad, I guess.

It's easy to do yourself or you can buy the parts and use your local tire shop.

Gotta buy a spare tire that can clear the bigger calipers (do you know anyone is selling?). Still pondering going status quo with stock rotors or go all the way to DBA two piece. I guess the stock rotors will do. Would the new spare fit in my trunk under the carpet?

Better question, will my spare from the factory clear the Akebono calipers? I sure hope so.

Also, if I go with the Stoptech slotted rotor, how much weight will I gain or lose?

If your spare is a 18" and looks like the one below then it should fit

Image

I believe the rim p/n is 999W5-JV000 and you would need a TBILL-S0559 Bridgestone T145

Sorry for taking so long to do this reply. I changed job and took a while to get things back to normal. I checked my spare tire. Strangely it is a 17 X 4T space saver spare tire, despite of the 18 inch wheels and tires that come with my xS.

My car was a CPO. Now I wonder if anyone switched my spare tire before selling it to me. Now I am concern, it won't even clear my existing brake calipers. Mixing 17 spare tire with three other 18 inch wheels and tires doesn't sound right to me.

Feel free to chime in. :wavey:

And will I need to modify anything on my brake booster ? And is it a direct dolt on ?
