Which 240 was first with the lower dash light????

I have a 1989 since brand new, I always wonder what the square hole in the center of the lower drivers dash was for??? maybe a service access??Well I learn yesterday that thats designed for a light, kind like dome light.....How can mine be missing?? Is this light on certain later S13?? or maybe an european option??

ive got a 93 s13 and there are lights. 2 under each side and the dome..which come on upon hitting my keyless entry.
