Well done! Beautiful information! Can anyone out there who has an Infiniti tell me confidently when they ever waited more than a week, besides waiting for a confirmatory test, in order to get any work on warranty done??? How many people have had a catastrophic break down such as a fuel pump failure in less than 15K of using their Infiniti????? Even when infiniti had oil consumption issues, they were few, and those who complained vigorously, received a new engine without even as much as a whine from Infiniti.

Infiniti isn't the ultimate driving machine. But if you look closely, they are generally the best in all segments of the car ownership experience. Infact, Infiniti owner's have been so spoiled that they whine about small stuff like creeky noises, wind noises, etc. I will buy an infiniti again anyday anytime.

Oh, I met a BMW owner who also owned an M-35 with over 30K getting bad gas mileage. Well, it turns out that the M-35 has been babied like heck, and this owner thought something was wrong with the car. I told them to do a good tune up on the car, and then go out there and flog the sh*t out of the car everyday until gas mileage improves. Infinitis get better in driving and performance, as they age, I told him. He thought that was weird. I told him that was the Infiniti design philosophy.

Some people already replaced their fuel pump 3 times(2x in 2 week). They had the limp mode due to a missing oil cooler(who needs oil cooler LOL). Turbo lag complains, run flat tire issue, etc ,etc.

I can't believe after 2 almost 3 years they still could not fix these pumps.

Certainly does not help on the company's image.

But again people still buying them even when they know there is a big chance they get stranded on the HWY and got surpirsed when it happenes.

Some of those guys get loaner some don't. Sometimes they have to book ahead few weeks to get a loaner and they get a KIA.

Some people buy car without research. You can't do that nowdays. Even companies used to make reliable good cars have problems.

I can't imagine to own a car like that after warranty.

BMW total ownership experience.

I loved driving my BMW. I hated paying to fix it. And it seemed like there was something to always fix.

Thats why I have a G35 now.

If it wasn't for BMW, I would never have discovered the world of Infiniti. In 2002, I bought a 1999 540i, I thought, at that time, I finally had the car of my dreams. Nay, Nay it was a freakin nightmare. First, the radiator crapped out, then the dash pixels died to the point I couldn't read it any longer and finally it started stalling in heavy stop and go traffic. When you're changing lanes on I-95 in commuter traffic, restarting that pig gave me many a gray hair. To make a long story short, after a mass airflow sensor, computer, etc and $5000 they had the nerve to tell me they didn't know how to fix their $63,000 car. They thought that replacing the main engine wiring harness would solve it, but would not eat it if that wasn't the problem. I sold the car at the auction! The worse part of the ordeal was dealing with the ARROGANT service managers explaining to me that after all, it's a BMW. On one of the last trips back to the BMW dealer in Rhode Island, I walked into the adjoining building which is an Infiniti franchise. I took a 2003 G35 for a test ride and did everything in my power to beat this car and convince myself that it could never hold a candle to the 540i; nay nay again! Since then I've owned a second 2003 G which my wife still has, a 2005 Gx and currently an 07 Gx. They are the best car and the best deal on the market especially when you utilize the residual value on a lease. Color me a Lifer!

Well said! I have beaten the heck of out of my G, from day one. It now has 37K on the odometer. All it has cost me are brakes, tires, and routine engine oil change. I got tired of beating the G and I have decided to beat on my little nissan for a while since after the December tune-up that brough the little nissan back to life.

In essence, i keep asking anyone to come up with a car in the same class as the G-37 and G-35 that can take the hellish amounts of abuse that a g-35 or G-37 will handle without problems. How many cars out there love to rev up to 7,000RPm all the time?? I met a beamer guy and he said he barely gets his car up to 5,000 RPM, and that is unusual even when that occurs. I laughed at him and said, wait until you own an infiniti and hopefully his eyes don't drop out of its socket when he sees the rev approaching 7,400 rpm. LMAO!

Well...crap. While I had been excited about the 370Z, once I saw Detroit pictures of the new BMW Z4 I was instantly hooked. The design is drasticallly improved over the previous generation. The retracable hardtop also sounds like a nice change of pace for me (not really a convertible guy)

While I was curious about what the future might bring for the Z4, like perhaps the New M3's 8 cylinder engine, I thought I could probably make do with the twin turbo six with 300 lbs of torque

My car previous to my G35 was an MZ3 with a glorious 315hp inine six that revved so much 'Free-er" for lack of a better word. Our engines just seem so encumbered (sp?) that I fear even the new 3.7 liter engine in the 370Z wont feel as fast the twin six. But then again the fuel pump may not put the 370Z into limp mode..........

Is Nissan ever going to go back to inline 6 engines or are they now sold on V-6 engines for life??? I get the feeling that inline straight 6 engines produces more low end torque than a V-6 engine, pound for pound, but not as much horsepower at the top end like a V-6. I also get the feeling that inline engines are far more responsive to acceleration than v-6 engines. I say this because my little nissan is a straight 4 banger and my G is a V-6. Yet, I always get the impression from my driving experience that my little nissan is quicker off the lot, other than its weight advantage, than my G. I also say this because I have twice driven a 240 SX, early 90s to mid 90s model, with a 2.4 litre in-line engine (I beleive, not sure though) and I was amazed at how quick the acceleration of that car was. I also drove an older version, mid 90s model Toyota Celica and they do kick butt with their engines and light weight as well. I have no idea what the real difference is, in terms of reliability and performance, with inline engines and v-6 engines. Can anyone help a brother out here???

Jacko, Your post brought back some memories of a 1966 Datsun SPL311 I owned back in 1973. This was also known as the Datsun 2000 or Fairlady. It had the upgraded engine with twin Solex carbs and a 13:1 comprssion ratio. I can't tell you how many pieces of Detroit iron that car would beat. Guys would follow me and not believe it had a 2000cc 4-banger until I opened the hood for them. The car would rev so high that twice it blew the headers right off the head. I loved that car but it did not love the road salt up in Vermont. It rusted to death...

Wow, what a ride! If you brought such a car back to modern day roads, many will eternally be in praise and hallow over the car---even slubbering over it, as well.

Interesting. I used to like the 98( I believe if my memory serve well) BMW z coupe. I was even thinking to buy one(even put a deposit on it) but I backed out. Was not functional for me. That time did not want to get a third car. As much as I liked the style 10 years ago now I don't even look at them if I see one. Weird.

Actually, the 2000cc Roadster didn't come out until mid-1967... and it would be an SRL311, not an SPL.

The U20 engine had a redline of 8K, 9.0:1 compression, and 135 crank hp.

The part about smacking around some Detroit iron? Spot-on.

Hitman - Wow, my old brain is getting tired. You're right it was a 1967 and a SRL. I'm pretty positive that the HP was actually 150 with the dual throated Solexes and 135 with the SU's. The mechanic that replaced the header pipe was the one that told me it had a 13:1 Compression ratio, guess not? It was a fun car!
