The Nissan dealers sell that part for about $60. Call around your area for junkyards. I found a gold mine in Massachusettes that has three s14's. This is a rarity to say the least, but I got the entire center console (3 pieces) for $30 shipped. (and NO I won't divulge my sources

Maybe if you're really nice I'll get the number for you when I get back to Maine! I'm in Vermont for the holiday and my rolodex is at home. If you can't wait a couple days, I'm sure they can be located using the online yellow pages. I forget the name, but it's a yard in northern Mass. AFAIK, there were only 3 or 4 junkyards listed in that area when I searched.

You'd be wise to just buy a new one from the dealer. Part number 68260-70F20, list for $42.93, wholesale maybe $37 or so. That item is a typical piece to break, I just went car shopping with a friend and all 8 cars we looked at had broken radio trim. There was a part number change in 10-94, the later cars didn't have as *much* of an issue, but they still break regularly. Boneyards usually break them when pulling radios anyway.

If they are from a vehicle with a stock stereo, it should be okay. If some schmoe poorly installed an aftermarket head unit, the chances of breakage are much more likely. I wouldn't imagine the the best interest of a boneyard would be properly served by ripping apart dash trim. It is a fairly common item for them to sell.

As I mentioned, I received all three center console pieces in perfect shape for $30 shipped. I also got the storage pocket, cig lighter, ashtray, and mounting frame for the stereo. A brand new piece was $70 or $80 at the dealer, and for my money I'd take the chances with a used dash.

All the cars I looked at had OE stereos. My OE piece broke on it's own as well. Boneyards don't care about interior parts, why do you think nice cars with leather seats get rained in? It's highly uncommon for anything other than electronics to get pulled, seats ONLY if they have a market. I've never seen seats kept up unless they're CRX or Golf Recaros.

If a new piece was $70 or $80, go back and try again. Dealers have the option to do their own markup, however doubling the price of something is a little much. Not to argue, but the chance of finding a good piece for say $20 is a lot more work than buying one new, for just a little more.

Are you sure we are not comparing apples to oranges? You said something about a change being made in 94? This was for an s14, and the dealer price was at least $70.... I don't remember exactly, but I do remember the reaction I had when I heard the price. I have never seen the problem you speek of, but I'm sure it is quite common if you have run into it that often. But, still not worth paying twice as much. For $30 I didn't have to spend a second in the yard pulling parts, and I got plenty of extras incase anything else breaks.

Obviously we go to different junkyards, because everyone I have dug around in has warehouses full of stripped parts. The lots are full of stripped vehicles. The only interiors that sit in the rain are those in vehicles with a broken sunroof. I have VERY RARELY seen mangled dash pieces, as the extra 5 minutes it takes to properly remove the stereo is well worth the money they will make upon selling the interior parts. With the number of stereo thefts, it is very much in their best interest to keep these pieces intact. Most thieves mutilate the dash to get at the goods.

Right, 10-94, that would make it a 95 model. How would a manafacturer build a car in October, ship it and put it on a lot, and sell it as a 94? Look at your build date on your car, generally cars built from say 6-94 until 4-95 would be 95s, and so on. So yes I am talking about S14s. The S13 trim piece is more expensive, $78.19, maybe your parts guy got it backwards. I'm sure that yards in the North may do things differently, there's more rain, snow, etc. so they might put more effort into upkeep, Southern yards don't care either way. I've seen a brand new Lexus LS430 with every window rolled down, full interior, filled with water before. That being said, if you guys are getting high prices at your local dealers, I'll buy the chit for you and ship it, there's no reason to pay extra markup on parts because the dealer is greedy. I dug out my receipt for my radio trim, it was $31.43 total. Anyone charging $70 for a piece they have less than $20 in shouldn't be selling parts. Next time you go give them the part number I gave you, and lean over the counter and see the screen, you'll be surprised what these guys are trying to make off of you.

Yes, dealers are notorious for marking up. I wouldn't doubt if I was quoted the price on an s13 trim, but even that sounds rather expensive.

Sorry for my misunderstanding on the 94 part thing.... makes sense.
