I just bought 2009 Versa 1.6 with no stereo. I like the simplicity of the original Versa stereo. I searched online but found no one selling it.

Does anyone know where I can purchase OEM versa '09 stereo?

Ebay would be your best bet probably.

Did you want the S model stereo or the SL (bluetooth, mp3, aux, 6 disc cd changer) stereo?

You can find things at http://www.car-part.com as well. Good luck

If you were to upgrade an S to an SL head unit, what other parts would be needed to get the bluetooth functionality, etc?

Also, the S has the 4 speaker system... How would I go about upgrading that to the 6 speaker system (tweeters, etc)? Do I need new harnesses at all?

Lastly... I know Nissan has a Rockford option for some of their cars... Can the Rockford headunit from say, a Xterra, work in a Versa?

Thanks in advance. (I agree, the stock S sound system sounds like poo).

This is the only part I can comment on. The tweeters can be done no problem. I had mine done in the A-Pillar in the same locations as where they would have been if it were done factory.

Also the stock S radio isn't the best, I agree but for two years I didn't think it was that bad until I upgraded my deck. Gosh don't remind me of that radio... Wanna buy it? LOL

Is the SL radio that much better than the S (clarity/wattage/etc)? I know it's 6disc and has an aux jack, but I want it to sound better w/o going aftermarket.

I'm thinking upgrading all 4 speakers to the 6 speaker set, with the tweeters and the SL deck, it may sound better?

Do the tweeters already have harnesses ran in the S model?

Thx in advance

the SL deck will cost you more then the aftermarket ones.

Right. I get that. But I'd rather stay with something stock looking (call it personal preference).

Right, but I want answers to my questions above. If wiring between S and SL is the SAME, and all I have to do is buy the new speakers and deck, then it's worth it.

I noticed on the S deck, radio is horrible sound. CD = good sound.

On the SL is the radio quality better or no?

To add the tweeters you will need an inline crossover (filter) to block out all the other sounds so that the tweeters only produce the high frequency that it's meant for. As for the radio itself, it's just plug and play so that should work no problem. The bluetooth and steering wheel controls however, are added installation, so if you're looking to get that it will require a little more work. Also, I don't have the SL radio so I can't tell you if it sounds better that the S or not. Hope that helps

I would think we all share the same antenna for the radio, Base, S and SL models. You can always go HD satellite radio if you end up getting the SL Stereo.

The crossover network isn't already in the SL headunit or SL harness? If it is, where?

Do the S units have the same harness for the A pillar speakers as the SL do? (just like the foglight harness is already installed in the S, with blockoff plates instead of foglights).???

If you can wait, I have an SL deck I'll get rid of for around $150. I put my Pioneer double din in my fiancees CR-V and put my stock deck back in. But I should be getting a GPS Pioneer in a few months.

The SL deck has 6 disc, front aux input, and mp3-cd play back. You won't have bluetooth or satellite radio. The 1.6s would not be wired up with all that.

No idea. I have a base SL. It doesn't have those things built-in.

Yes it should work. However, the bluetooth will require quite a bit of wiring as the mic is over head in the light console in the roof above the drive and passenger.

Yes the SL support Sat Radio

The crossover I'm talking about is attached to the wiring of the tweeters so no it's not in the headunit and it's not the harness that's connected to the radio.

gotya... so if I was to put the SL tweeters in my S, I'd need to buy the tweeters, the pillar covers, the crossovers, and what else? is the wiring there already or no?

You're better off trying to find these parts in a junkyard or custom fabricating it. You'll spend way more than it's worth if you bought all these parts from a dealer. A good high end set of door speakers (maybe with pivoting tweeters) would be better than the SL OEM speaker setup I would think.

You are 200% correct.

Even a set of component speakers would be a better choice.

Something like this:

One member on here used component speakers. I remember seeing the tweeters being fabricated into the pillar covers. And the cross-overs would be higher quality. On most cars, the only thing wired to the tweeters for a cross-over is a low grade capacitor. A good cross-over has higher quality capacitors, resistors, and inductors to blend the wooder/midrange well with the tweeter without sounding harsh.

You've got all the right answers since my last post about the tweeters. I have tweeter set up in mine and before I did it I check at the dealer how much everything would have cost from parts to labor and believe me when I say it would have been about $600. Now that ridiculous! I got parts and everything done for a less than $150 after the taxes. Anyway, I went to a car audio shop and got a high end set and got them to drill the holes in the A-pillars for a flush mount in the same location where the factory set are located. Oh, the crossover that is put in with my tweeters came as a package but I don't know if they are all bundles like that.

Left side Right side

I took my car to the dealership to get it serviced not long after it was installed and they noticed it and told me that they actually like how it looks and sound better than the stock.

Ah, yes. You were the one with the pics I saw. It does look good. Did you remove the pillars to do that? I've never installed a component system before but I would think you have to secure the tweeter from behind somehow.

Understood, and I get that spending less and getting a high quality component set would be better, but wiring them to the deck, and having to replace the deck at that point becomes more of a project. Wattage won't match the headunit, etc.

I am thinking just salvaging an SL interior may be the way to go. Cheaper, and still looks stock.

Depending on the junkyard, you can get those parts very cheap. But be aware that you may still have to wire it up. Having a 1.6, I don't think the pillar tweeter wiring is already there so you need that and have to run it to the deck somehow. You may wanna grab the door speakers too as I believe they are a different brand in the SL and would match the stock tweeters better. It would be just as much work with an aftermarket component system. And yes, it would work just fine with a stock deck. I'm not sure of the power specs of the basic deck but the SL deck puts out a decent amount of power for a stock deck. I can turn mine up very loud without distorting.

Thank you guys for the compliments. I'm actually not sure what's behind there as it was done at the shop but since you mentioned that now my curiosity has risen and I will take a look at it later and tell you what's going on with those tweeters. I know the pillars were removed to cut out the holes but like I said I will fill you guys in with more on that later.

My opinion for anyone who wants to buy the SL radio, waste of money! After market units are always better, more power, normally sounds better and more options normally and for the price of what you'd probably buy the SL deck for.
