Where did anyone buy the sr20 from? And who got the best deal? Did the motor run when you got it? Who should I stay away from when ordering my own?

Just curious,Why would he have to stay away from Flashoptions? I've ordered a motor from them and have had nothing but positive things to say about them. You can go ahead and have the moderator check my IP and I'm NOT from Flashoptions. I'm just saying, don't doubt what you don't REALLY know about yet. If FO ****s one of us, then be my guest and bag on them all you want. I just think that for the people who did order their motors from FO, it's kind of a insult when other people are basically insulting your judgement for ordering a motor from them when they haven't even dealt with them yet. Now eBay is a totally different story!!!! And so for CW240sx, pick a place that's in your budget and most convient for YOU. Dauntless has very good deals and is very very reputable, but was a bit too far for me. Same for Heavythrottle. I am sending my wiring for service to Daunt though. As he's giving me a good deal.

So FTRS14.5 you got a motor from FO? If so whats the condition of everything and do you have pics for proof for the rest of us that they're legit? Thanks

I don't know if you've read any of the other posts that I have done, but I have just recently order the motor. I have not yet received the clip yet, but be sure that when I do, I'll post all the pictures that I can. So far from what experience that I have had from them, I can't say anything bad at all. Oh yeah, I did have them checked out as well.......my Aunt is the head of the Philippine consulate in Canada and had her check with the US Emabassy in Malaysia to see what type of business practices FO is doing. She told me that the US Embassy is contacting them almost every month to make sure that they are as legitimate as they say they are. That right there was enough for me. Like I said before, once I receive the clip, I'll post as many pictures that I can fit on my website (which should be up in a week or so, it's a work in progress. Same with my car. :D "

Looks to me like nismo_man said "be careful." Not "dont' buy from" or "stay away" from. Everybody on NICO has had their eye on FlashOptions from the getgo. The only reason I don't say good or bad about them is because I haven't heard either way about them yet, and I will hold off on my opinion until I do hear either way. I only recommend three companies right now. phase2 because I bought my motor there and my friend bought his motor there, and he has done right by me from day one. afterdark because Daunttless has WAAAAAYYYY too much invested in NICO to even consider screwing the people that ordered engines over. Plus hes done a TON for NICO, so I try to send him business. And Heavy Throttle, because they have been around forever and have a lot of swaps under their belts.

Maybe I'll recommend FlashOptions when I hear about the condition of their swaps. We'll see.

I totally understand that........there have been many burned on this subject and I'm not one to add on to that. But everybody has to start from somewhere, you know what I mean??? Daunt is the man though!!!! Can't deny that. But we have to remain optimistic for companies that are just starting until they screw us over. Then that's when it gets ugly. By the way, there's a company in Lynnwood, WA called Foreign Engines Inc. who totally screwed me in prices. I went there one day and got a quote for a S14 SR20DET Complete Swap (i.e motor, transmission, ecu, wiring harness, intercooler and piping, maf, etc...) for $1995. I was there almost when they were closing and told them that I wanted to order one as they did not have one. Said that it'll take 4 months to get it. I was okay with that. Then I told them I'll be back the next day to put a down on the motor, came back and they jacked the price up to $3000!!!! I told that I already had a quote and they said it didn't matter, all that mattered was the price they have now. They said that it was a mistake in price, but I verified with the guy like 30 times that the price of $1995 is for a S14 and he kept saying yes. The drive from where I live to Lynnwood is almost an hour, so they wasted all this time of mine and that pissed me off. So I just wanted to let everybody know just in case somebody wants to get a motor from them. Also, they have no clue what they are talking about. Yup.....

If you mean a gauge cluster then no, but trust me this motor is in such nice shape. I didn't even need to resurface the flywheel befroe bolting my clutch up. Quality engines. You get what you pay for.

I am not saying daunt is bad, that is where I am going to take my business. But isn't heavy throttle alot closer to you?

P.S. flasoptios is going to confuse people.

daunt is cheaper, and also everytime i contact them for parts i get the same e-mail back (as if it was automated ),and they want 3000 for a front clip or 2500 for a engine setup which means nothing to me because j-spec is doing the instal.dont get me wrong i would love to buy stuff from them but i want new tension rods and they sell them for $40 +10 for shipping and i asked if i could pick them up they sent me the same e-mail as if i just asked them if they had them.

Everyone deserves a fair shake here....but,...

Dauntless has spent so much of his time serving <our> community; has educated so many of us here on these swaps, that he is a big part of the reason, why people are more comfortable now to actually <do> the DET swaps they have been talking about for a long time...

Food for thought.....

you can get the engine and transmission or a whole clip at turbofour here in Cleveland. Install takes about three days and your off and driving. They are priced fair and the install is quality. They have swapped in about 10 SR's already so you know they can do it. Check em out at Turbofour Just talk to Paul and tell them I sent you. Lata, joe

Is there a shortage of SR engines on the market these days, maybe as a result of the work stopage at the West Coast ports? So far I've found a motor from HeavyThrottle with transmission and LSD rear end for $4000. Then some local shop in Anahiem wants ~$2500 for 'everything to make the motor run'.

Dauntless is waiting on engines. Phase2 is currently redoing in their inventory.

How long did you guys who have done the swaps, spent searching for a quality engine?

I ordered my SR on October 19 2002 and didn't recieve it until January 7, 2003. So you may have to be patient to get what you want.

Ace,

Thanks for helping to put things in perspective for me. Where did you get your engine from? I was telling everyone that I was looking to have an engine in 2-3 weeks. That doesn't seem so realistic anymore though. :(

Yeah I thought I would be lucky and have my motor in a short time after the order, but it doesn't always work that way. I got my motor from Heavy Throttle. It was 2800 plus shipping. Surprisingly shipping was only 79 bucks. It was shipped from Ohio (I think) to Bellingham WA. which is an hour from me. Instead of having them deliver it I went and got it with a truck and then had my Dad and a buddy help me lift it off the truck. It worked perfect.:D Good luck.

PS you could call around and check with different places and tell them to call you if a motor turns up. Heavy Throttle called me once while I was waiting, offering me a red top front clip from a 180SX that they came across. But I wanted a blacktop so I waited.

Im in an Economics class right now and I can relate the two. Its like supply and demand. As the SR20DET swap becomes more and more popular, the demand builds making their prices rise. Also with the engines being in Japan there is a small supply, making for even higher prices. So get your motor now before your paying 4 grand for a complete red top motor.

It took me a little over a month from the time I ordered my engine to when I actually got it. I think I ordered it in September and I got it in late October. Something like that.

Front clips from Turbofour generally cost under 3 and a half grand and take about a month or so to arrive. Obviuosly there are price ranges and time differences if you want something specific, but Teh last blacktop clip they ordered only took a month and it was in great condition. Lata, joe

Burgy...

Do you have any contact info for Turbofour? Thanks in advance.
