Alright so I searched the forums to answer my question, but the only thing I found out was that the harnesses need to be 45 degrees or something? I don't know.

I have 2 bride Vios III low max's with 4 point sparco harnesses. I know that I can bolt them down where my rear seat used to be but is that safe? I'm not thinking so... Also I don't know where I can bolt down the 2 belts that go over my lap. I'm thinking I have to drill holes in my floor boards to bolt them down. Which again, is something I don't not want to do.

So, if anyone has an Idea of what I can do, I'm open to them. Oh and I almost forgot, I have looked at harness bars but I don't really understand how they work if the belts need to be at 45 degrees?

Thanks for the advice in advance,

Evan

get a harness bar and then mount it properly to that.If you never have anyone in the back seat your golden. Although I'd assume if you run harnesses you effective have a two seater no matter what.

Yeah no one fits in the back seat of a 240 so there's no point to it. I have a trailblazer to haul my friends around in. And does the harness bar have someplace to attach the lap buckles to?

And how's that coupe coming? I haven't read your thread in a while.

Run the harnesses in an X to the stock REAR seatbelt location behind each front seat.

That's what I thought I should do, but I don't know where to mount the buckles that go over my lap. I can take pics if I'm not making sense.

yeah mounted my side straps a slightly further back than the OEM mount unless its a track car then you could mount them in the oem seatbelt location.
I still think a harness bar is a good idea.

I just installed a maxima keyring light in the coupe pretty awesome at night.

Please don't install your harness where it's going to compress your spine in an accident and kill you...it's just not smart.

The CORRECT way to do it. I would rather use OEM belts then risk killing myself with a half assed harness setup.

Where the rear bolts of the factory seat rail mount are perfect for the lap belt as long as you use a 90 fitting for the side closest the door. They sell these 90's in summit as well as eye hooks for custom install. Now the shoulder belts, year you need a harness bar or a cage with one.

Alright I was looking at an NRG harness bar? I'm 16 and I valet park cars at a high end restaurant. I only work every other friday but I make $200-$300 a night. I still need to buy mounting brakcets for my bride seats as well. So basically what I'm saying is, is the NRG harness bar safe?

If the bar itself as well as the harnesses are mounted correctly then yes it will be safe.

Something to think about, however, is the event of a rollover. All OEM seat belts allow you to "submarine," or slide down in the event of a rollover. This way if the roof caves in your head isn't in harms way. Anything more than a 3 point harness (OEM is 3 point) keeps you firmly in place no matter what the situation is. I suggest installing the harness and everything with the harness bar, but keep your OEM seat belt installed and only use the harness on the track.

Not to mention in order for the harness to even hold you in the seat it needs to be strapped tight to your body, which isn't ideal for daily driving. Most people that daily with a harness don't strap themselves in tight, which is probably as bad as not wearing a seat belt at all. Really the only safe way to run a harness is to have a roll cage, but at that point the car no longer becomes very daily friendly.

Sorry for kinda taking over your thread, I'm just regurgitating the information I've read in threads like this over the years haha.

You didn't take over my thread, basically everything you said I didn't really know, so I appreciate all the information you have just supplied me with. I regret spending money on these seats and harnesses now... I thought it was safer to have harnesses. Guess I was wrong...again. Like always.

And yeah definitely a big no to the roll cage, 1) My dad would flip s*** (ex-Vietnam marines have bad tempers) 2) I can't afford it.

I guess I'll just run the harnesses anyways and tell people if in the event my car flips they are going to die as a heads up since my car didn't come with seatbelts. :wtf2:

Well I appreciate all the help and information you guys have given me, and tolerating my ignorance to cars.

Can't you just keep your OEM seat belts? I have a bucket seat but I'm still using the stock seatbelt, I've been to quite a few track events and that combination holds me in just fine.

My "stock" seatbelt is from a Sentra though, I just got rid of the automatic shoulder belt stuff and put in a normal seat belt. If you want to go that route there are a few write-ups on Nico, just search s14 seat belt into s13 or something.

I might do that, but when I bought the car it didn't have seat belts in it period. The guy who had the car before me drifted it, blew the motor, and took all the parts off and sold it to me.
