I have a '92 Q with 193K and a shot driveshaft. And I have pristine '94 Q45t with about 120K and the drieshaft seems fine. I'll be keeping this one for a long time. And I have a new driveshaft from Scottsdale that can fit either car.

Should I: A) Install the new shaft in the '92? B) Install the new shaft in the '94, and move the '94 shaft into the '92?

And if I did B) How much longer will it take? And I figure I should change the center bearing in the process, so it'll cost and extra $120 or so.

Thanks

My opinion is that if the DS isnt messed up, dont mess with it..... Trust me, youll be glad you didnt.

If you ever sell the 92 you can always swap it if you want..... Thats what id do personally.

Excellent advice Wes. Even when selling I wouldn't mess with it unless something's wrong. Too much can go wrong.

The service manual has the correct procedures to install a new DriveShaft. I suggest you follow it exactly.

Don't just slap the new driveshaft in or you will probably have vibrations.

Driveshaft problems/vibrations can get annoying real fast.

If someone else is installing it, print out the instructions for them and watch them do the work.

Going to work on the driveshaft tomoorrow night. I am taking your advice to just put the new shaft in the '92 where it is needed. I am also replacing the exhaust hangers.

The biggest trick will be figuring out the number of spacers needed for the center bearing brackets to minimize vibrations. This was mentiond by Q45Tech in another thread a while ago. Since the'94 design shaft is going into the '92, I'll need to find the best vertical positoin for the new bracket. The thread said to use one spacer to starter, but I am only able to guess that the spacer is 0.2 cm/0.1 inch.

its all trial and error... Dont forget about the more important phasing on the companion flange!

She is sooo much better now. The driveshaft shange was no problem with two of us to snake the driveshaft out and back in. The markings on the companion flange were very clear. It felt odd torquing down one bolt completely and working unevenly so that the bolt by mark "C" is torqued last. I really wanted to torque it all down evenly and gradually, but I followed the instructions.

The single spacer I needed for the center bearing was there. And the FSM talks about replacing "A" "B" and "C" bolts with "9" bolts - all the bolts were already "9" bolts. Like I said, all went smoothly, including the ride after. Finally I can feel the bit of front tire vibration at 60+, but my butt is not shakin'.

I also changed 4 of the 5 rear exhaust hangers - would have changed all 5 if I had bought 5. Not sure how much they all contributed to vibration, but there done (almost). And the transmission mount and two exhaust hangers there were changed a few years ago, but they all still looked good.

Very Happy.
