My car is due for its 30K mile service which will cost $595 at the dealer. Can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative? Can I just take the car to any Japanese/Import auto shop for it's 30K service? If so, does anyone have any recommendations in the Southern California area....or more specifically, the Glendale/Burbank area.

It all depends on the dealer you go to and what the service consists of...
Every dealer puts together their own "Service" and some add things you dont really need etc...
My 30K service consists of:
Oil & Filter Change, Rotate & Ballance Tires, Batter Service, Replace Engine Air Filter, Replace In-Cabin Micro Filter, Drain & Refill Transmission fluid, Complete Multi-Point Inspection including and not limited to, Fluid Level Check, Exhaust System Inspection, Steering and Gear Linkage Check, Inspect Axles and Suspension, Brake Inspection (measurement), Drive Shaft Boot Inspection, Vacuum Hose inspection, Drive Belt Inspection.
We do this for $459.95 plus tax on parts only... (if you come in and let me know, I can take some $ off the parts...
If you add a Coolant system Flush (which is better then just a drain and fill) it is $99.95 additional...
We do also offer loaner cars as well...
But, not in your area, but possible to make the drive

One of the things I forgot to mention in the above post is...
The service is basicly an oil change, with some add ons... Every dealer you bring the car to is going to do the "Inspections" even with the oil change alone...
If you do an oil change, and the transmission drain and fill / coolant system drain and fill, and do the air filter and micro filter on your own, you will save some money... Especially if you get the parts from an online wholesaler
