Bought a 96 J30 a few weeks ago. It is a Touring model with 184k miles that had the gold kit and wood package from the factory. Now it doesn't have a gold kit anymore as donor J30's from the salvage lot have helped transform it over to just chrome emblems/etc.. Since I have completely detailed the interior, replaced a window regulator/motor, replaced the driver's seat motor, replaced the rear view mirror and driver's side mirror, replaced the automatic antenna, changed out the plugs with Bosch 4 prong iridiums, running Royal Purple in it, changed out the fuel filter, ran a can of 44K through the tank, and now messing with the Mass Airflow sensor and from what I am reading I may be messing with relocating the knock sensor.

Problems I still have with it:

small interior stuff - wood near shifter cracking, wood on doors hideously cracking and falling apart (need to know where to go to find either a new or used OEM interior wood package)

poor gas mileage

stalling and lack of power in the under 2200 rpm area once the car has gotten to operating temperature for awhile - however after replacing the fuel filter last night I drove it for 10 miles and the problems seemed to have dissappeared.

Leaking transmission - tried lucas transmission fix in it but still leaks

Any suggestions on fixing any of the above would be great.

As far as the wood is concerned, I don't know of anywhere to get some, But everything else has been covered here numerous times. I personally posted pics here about where to relocate the Knock Sensor. it is a very easy relocating process. That KS can be the root cause of your lack of power issue.

He wasn't trying to relocate the MAF just the KS. But, to answer your question. The KS is a small but difficult part to replace because it lies in the middle of the engine, which is way more of a pain to replace than to relocate, even some mechanic shops will not even do this job because its so hard to do. And if I am not mistaken it's like close to or more than a $1000 job.

I am only replacing the MAF due to me destroying my old one by accident as I was trying to clean it. The Knock sensor relocation as that seems to be the thing to do according to many threads that are experiencing the same problem with hesitation and bogging down of the engine. Thanks for the reply
