Hi, I'm in Monterey, CA (central coast) and I need a recommendation for an exhaust shop that uses a mandrel bender. It would also be nice to know who is willing to weld cats because I need some look-alike replacements for my precat and cat on the old S14. Thanks in advance.

C'mon guys, I've never had crush bend recommended, only mandrel bends. Does it just sound cool to say, oh, you need a 2.5" stainless steel mandrel bent exhaust? Doesn't anyone in California actually do it?

SpeedWay Muffler. Ask for Serge... he's like this russian dude (i think he's russian), the guy knows his stuff. He customized my megan downpipe cuz the clearance was wack. He also specializes in 3" turbo piping and has custom 3" flanges...

Yeah, I'm far enough north to miss out on the big Socal scene and I'm far enough south to miss out on the growing Norcal scene. It's like being the forgotten middle child here. Anyway, I'm bent on mandrel bends, so, I have a few questions about your recommended shop. How much do they charge for parts and labor (seperate) for a cat back exhaust? I want a cat back system but I also need some stock looking cat replacements. Are they cool with labor only and me brining my own parts or do you think they'll add a fee? Or even better, can they beat the online prices for parts? Most shops are afraid of messing with the cats or sensors on an OBD-II car. Are they willing to work on catalytic converters using non-Nissan brands? I know that 's a lot of questions, but I gotta know if they are worth the 11 hour drive, two tanks of gas, and a day off from work (not to mention the actual exhaust price).

i'd say give him a call, and yes he works with cats. as far as my deal...

$300 will give you a high flow 3" cat w/ mandrel'ed 3" piping to your exaust (bring your own exhaust, or buy one of his). 3" flanging is like $20 extra because he has like special custom 3" flanges...he also charged me $40 to customize my downpipe.

if you not turbo, 2.5" piping and cat stuff will be significantly cheaper.

Those are some good numbers and I'm stoked he'll mess with the cats. I'm definitely gonna give him a call. For being so helpful, you should have another cup of coffee and pretend I bought it for you! ~o)

It looks like I'll be down there on the 17th. Serge is gonna hook me up with a full stainless header back exhaust with cats and such. He thinks I'm in the 500-600 ballpark. I'm pretty stoked he's open on a Saturday. Now I don't have to miss making money to spend money! Thanks again.

good stuff man. the guy definitly knows his stuff. make sure after everythings done, drive around and check it out to make sure there arent any leaks n such. id hate for you to drive all the way back to find a dime size leak in one of the welds, lol. i doubt that will happen, but just to be on the safe side.

Wow, thanks again! I've never upgraded an exhaust before and would have never thought to check for leaks. And I know I would have been way pissed to get all the way home, realize I had a little leak and then had to pay the local shop to fix it. The local shop being the same where I already got quotes and then blew them off because I didn't like their work.

I was gonna ask that too, but just called instead. Rowland Heights is where Serge is at. Very nice and knowledgeable fellow. It's gonna be a five hour drive one way for me. I have an appointment for this Saturday at 8am. Full 2.5" Stainless from the header back oh boy!

Why is everything cool about cars down in LA? Dang! At least I have my racetrack at Laguna.
