Hearing a humming coming from the back deck, driver's side. Anticipating that my fuel pump regulator is going.

But calling Scottsdale Infiniti gives me a price of about $600 to replace.

Any suggestions as to a better-priced alternative? Anyone repair these things?

Thanks in advance,
Stefan in Seattle

Are you talking about the fuel pump control unit? I don't think it would hum... that's typically the pump itself.

If you need one, I have a few used ones laying around... they typically go for about $50. I check them for melting and deterioration around the connector and transistors that usually get baked when they fail.

Another option if you do need to replace your FPR would be to buy one that is after market. That's what I did. Relocated it and everything. Works great. Only downfall is you will need to tune it but if I remember correctly, you tune it to like 33.4 lbs or something like that when at idle. Most aftermarket versions have a gauge built in.

Yep. The only humming noise will come from the fuel pump itself.

Installing a new fuel filter may help. Also, the pump runs quieter (and cooler) when it's surrounded by a full tank of gasoline.
