My '01 Pathfinder w/ 140k mi. just popped up with code P0420 (Catalyst Efficiency below Threshold ) and about the same time I started occasionally smelling exhaust while driving. I had the O2 sensors replaced at 70k and I expect one or more catalytic converters may be bad or there's a leak somewhere. What's the best way to get the problem accurately diagnosed? Is it a dealer only thing or do independent shops have the right diagnostic equipment?

If independent shops can do it - any recommendations in the Atlanta area?

Steve

Right, paying hundreds for the wrong repair is as much fun as root canal. How did you get the problem diagnosed?

From your sig picture, how bad are your rear springs shot? LOL, but you should get the airlift 1000 kit, its like $85 dollars off amazon and your rear wont sag and it wont wreck your coils.

After a few hundred miles the service engine soon light went out, the evil P0420 dragon retreated back to his cave, hopefully never to appear again, the car passed emissions inspection, the beer jug was uncorked and there was much celebration.
