I've had the same problem posted in 'Mechanical' since 04-02 and have yet to get an answer...don't understand it because I've been aware that it's a frequent problem.I also have the O/D light out and cruise control quit operating. All the fuses and wires have been checked. SOMEONE must have the solution...bulbs?switches?I'll track this thread as an alternative to the negligence toward mine and hope there's a reply/resolve.How much ya wanna bet it's a simple solution?

I could use this info as well, when I bought my car the lights were out on the ac/heat vent setting buttons, I wasn't sure if they were supposed to be lit up, but always figured they should be, so now I have confirmation that they should light up from you guys. Anyone have info on how to get them to light back up(part, bulb, procedure) It will be appreciated by many I'm sure.

if you pull of the back cover of the control panel you'll see a circuit board held on by 3 plastic spreader pieces, pull off the board off of the plastic pieces but don't disconect the wiring going to that board, behind that you'll see a 3 very small light bulbs that you use a flat head screwdriver to take off. take out the one you need replaced and go to the dealer, it's a special bulb that they only carry, around $10 each. If you have any questions about it shoot me an email at [email protected]

what about hyper white bulbs in there?

I recently put hyper whit bulbs in my gauge cluster in a 98 240 (what a diffrence!!!) But I would like all the other buttons, lights and gizmos n such to match or be as bright.

anyone know about replacements for that?

I was talking about a 95-98, i don't know about s13's i've never worked on one. The 3 plastic snaps are white, easy to spot and are the only thing holding the back board on. Use needle nose plyers and squeeze them together and pull the board off of them. You'll see there are only 3 bulbs that you can remove, top one is for the air flow switches, bottom one for the heater adjustment, and third one off on the side is for the fan numbers.

If you replace a light bulb with an LED you will need to add a current limiting resistor in series with the LED.

All the lights in the dash of the s13 are light bulbs? Wow if so that sucks lol would be easier to upgrade LED's with brighter LED's I dont think they make mini hyper bulbs for dash stuff do they?

My gf gave me 2 different heater/AC bulbs in my stocking for Christmas not knowing which one I needed. After about 3 hours today, I got them both in. I know, I'm a bit slow. I ended up taking apart the entire assembly, but jeepdan's instructions should work. I did not realize that the bulbs actually go all the way through the green circuit board. This means, once you remove the orange board, you can unscrew the bulb that is used for the AC button/Hot-Cold banner and also the bulb for the airflow buttons. The fan bulb can be removed much more easily since you do not have to remove the orange board.

Here are the part numbers if you are interested. These were for a '95 s14:A Lamp Heater: 27545-50J00 (There are 2 of these, under orange board)27545-50J05 (This one is for the fan)

In the process, I found out my the AC button/Hot-Cold banner bulb is out too, so I ordered one more. At least now I can see to change the airflow at night. Cheers.

check out this link: http://www.importcarpartsplus.com/Needles.htm

The first pic is off an S13. I'm not advertising for this site, It just gave me the idea to research on a DIY.

I haven't ripped apart my guages yet since I don't know what the hell I'm doing, but that pic with the orange needles (about the 3rd one down, i think) got me motivated.

I also found this pic from another user on another board:

The replacement bulbs on that site are Polarg brand 194 hyper white bulbs. I just got a pair off ebay to put in my clear sidemarkers and they are very bright. I also have a pair of Polarg white LEDs in the same 194 size and they aren't as bright, but they put out no heat, whereas the hyperwhite non-LEDs are too hot to touch. I'd feel better with LEDs in my dash though, just because they're more efficient.

The only thing I don't get is how that site says it only used 6 total polarg 194 bulbs to achieve the effect inthose pics. But on that ripped out gauge cluster pic, there are indicators to more than 6 lights. Plus, none of those look like they line up with the gauge needles. Does anyone know what's up?

Here's a pic of the bulbs indidcated on the site: Polarg 194sized hyper white bulbs (non-LED)

They maybe only used 6 by not replacing some of the bulbs used in the warning lights?

By the way, these Hybrid lights look great in the sidemarkers, except they make my headlight covers look more yellow.
