My Q engine locked up on me yesterday, just after I decided that it was a nice enough car to keep in the long run, so its sitting in the car shop looking beautiful but will probably not be moving for another five months.

What is the cheapest way to get my car moving again?

Wow... what happened? I heard T3 had one on hand, but it may be gone by now. The consensus is that a Japanese take-out is the way to go if you can find a clean one. You can't mix 90-93 vs 94-96 because of differences on the crank angle sensors.

You should have your "new" engine rehabed as much as possible before installation. At a minimum new guides (for 90-93), all new seals, hoses, possibly knock sensors and harness, etc.

Sorry to hear about your engine... let us know what caused the failure, mileage, etc. Occasionally a guide failure can be repaired if the rest of the engine is in good condition. When mine failed I had only one slightly bent valve. The pulled that one head, replaced the valves on that cylinder, and then reassembled with new chains, guides, sprockets, etc. That was about $2800 at the dealership in 1999, but definately cheaper than an engine swap.

You probably read in a different thread that Fred (palmerwmd) has one to sell.

dude,

I might have to buy that engine from you. I know that I cant take it out or pick it up though, so that might be a deal breaker right there.

I think I messed up on my deal with God. The deal was that he would keep the car running, but I would not run it hard.

I went on the highway on sunday and floored it for about 30 seconds. got the car to around 105. When I let off the gas, I heard a clunking sound. It was only at high rpms at first so I thought it was the lifters like before.

Anyhow, the next day I decided to take it to the shop. The noise started getting worse and really loud and as I got to the stop sign right across from my "technician", the car died. I cranked it again and it started so I decided to try to make it across. I pull into the middle of the road and it dies. A lady almost ran into me.

Anyhow, I backed up traffic on two lanes for a while but we managed to push it the final feet to the mech where it sits till this moment.

So how much do you want for the engine palmerwmd? I am going to start saving and hopefully you'll still have it when I get a decent amount together.

Sounds like the perfect formula for it.Quote »It was only at high rpms at first so I thought it was the lifters like before.[/quote] Somehow, I don't think God is your mechanic. He would have had you do more than just pray if he was aware of those symptoms. Have you ever read of anyone on this forum tolerating high rpm valve train noise? It just doesn't happen on a healthy VH45DE.

Man, that's depressing. I'm always sorry to see an engine go, especially when it belongs to a member. Did you ever confirm that the new guides the dealer put in were of the new design? Letting off the gas too fast is a no-no in my book, but what I find very interesting is that the car continued to run after you heard the clunk and it then progressively got worse. I just don't know how that could happen.Heath, when they pulled the head, did they remove the engine, or were they able to tilt it to one side? Which head did they pull, and how did they know only that one was damaged?
