Hello,
I want to see if anyone knows where to find Q45 strut & shock assemblies for a good price. I have been looking for the past few months but they are rare, always being out of stock or not carried.
I was looking at InfinitipartsUSA http://www.infinitipartsusa.com/1997-In ... /21247.htm
but from there it looks to be $500 each!

I was hoping to get OEM parts, but I'll go for aftermarket if it will save me money. Any thoughts?

Thanks so much.

Monroe makes some crappy replacements. There is just a strut insert kit for the front, which should be less. Call and ask.

Rear shocks have to be replaced as a unit.

You have the wrong car to try and go cheap on and keep it running well.

Here is a rear struck that is manufactured by KYB

They don't list the front. You will, at the minimum, need dust boots also, and bearings for the front strut. Probably a lot more.

What year is your Q? Is it a touring or non-touring?

Sorry just noticed your "97Q" in the post subject line. The OEMs aren't $500 each, but they're not cheap either:

Front struts: $221.11 each
Boots: $20.66 each
Bearing: $15.60 each
Mount (if needed): $59.15 each

Total: $633.04 (w/mounts, $514.74 without)

Monroe makes no crappy replacements for a 97' TRUST ME, I looked. What you need to do is call www.memoryfab.com, don't use their website, call them. They can get you a set of KYB SR Specials (at least they could a few months ago) You will pay less than OEM and get their OEM manu with better quality. Do order the strut mounts (front), dust covers, bushings, just about everything else you would need except for the Strust inserts and rear shocks. The SR Specials are much higher quality than OEM but will give you a more taut ride, which I love.

Thanks for the comments. Yeah, once I had to start replacing components I realized that the Q45 isn't cheap to repair. My Q45 is the base/non-touring model, before 5/97. What are the differences between the pre 5/97 & After 5/97? Additionally, would the coilovers from the 90-96 Q45 fit the 97?

Parts and prices are the same. The split on the T/non-T was 07/98 and later. The G50 (90-96 Q) will not fit your model.

If they have 89k, how much more life do you expect they would have? I'm tempted to go the used route, but I feel like I would run into the same problem a few years down the line. Also, what would the price be?

I would go brand new if you want them to last any amount of real time. If you do it right they will take care of you. I did a total rehab at 75k and 20k later the car drives like new. Get the higher quality KYB's if you can find them. There are coilovers but they are $$$ and really make the car lower. I do have mine lowered as well with lowering springs, but Megan makes coilovers for our cars but they run 1k and require some messaging to install (some mild welding is required).

Depends on your tolerance for repeat labor and different wear rates producing different damping rates for front vs. rear.

actually that isn't all that much. i spent more back in the day on springs and struts/shocks. But that was 5+ years ago and I knew the car had at least 10 more years of service for me. But if you can get a good set of coilovers that are new for 825 that is a great deal.
