Today, I just swapped the driver side seat bottom to the passenger side and vice versa. It's a little time consuming, but can be done. I'm generally fairly careful getting in and out of the Q so that I don't 'drag' my butt across the edge of the seat and cause more cracks and such. But after 11 years and 146k miles I did the swap due to a few cracks.
You'll have to unbolt 4 bolts (12mm) from underneath each seat bottom and unhook all of the wiring connectors and remove. Note: I didn't remove the entire seat, just the seat bottom. Unfortunately, the metal pans on the seat bottom are L & R specific, but that's not a problem. Pry apart all of the hog rings (15 on each seat bottom) and remove the leather/vinyl and cushion from the metal. Swap metal pans and reassemble in reverse order.
Side note: although the edge of the seat bottoms should last a few years before cracking, the edge that you'll now slide across getting in and out will now be vinyl instead of leather. From the factory, the inside edge of the seats are vinyl. So, if you do the swap, the outside edge will now be vinyl.
BTW, this is on a 98 QX4.
Hope this helps.
