wheres a good place to buy sub box carpeting? walmart fabric department? michaels? online somewhere? any ideas?

Lowes, Home Depot, Menards.

Around here it costs ~$0.45 a square foot

EW: I've found that specialized auto parts stores are more expensive then the large retail home improvement stores.

But they have ANY color carpet and vinyl so your options are much better.approx $9/yd is not that bad anyway (36x72). Just depends upon how custom you want it to look.
