I'm going to be replacing my boot vinyl with a nice custom leather boot, and while I'm at it, I want to replace my shift knob. Anyway, I don't want to spend over $25 for the shif knob. I don't care who makes it, as long as it is LIGHT and short (maybe ball style would be best.) The reason? If I get a lighter, shorter shift knob, not only will it look much better because it will be much shorter than that really tall stock shift knob (hehe, some people might even think I have a short shifter on it...), but the lighter weight will make the shifts easier. Anyway, sites/pics/info/prices anyone? Enjuku's cheapest are $40 Greddy ones...and I will refuse to buy Greddy stuff...leave that for the Honda suckers...Does anyone know if all Nissan MT have the same type of twist off knobs?

Yeah Greddy or Trust as they are called in Japan makes really good stuff. and the a lighter shift knob might not be as good as you think. The transmissions in the 240sxs arent the best. they tend to grind the gears and the heavy shift knob is used to mask the problem. I'd spend the money and go with a NISMO knob. expensive, but good stuff

Is it just me or do the stock shift knobs look like a pen15

I'm not saying Greddy doesn't make stuf (and I was pretty judgmental in judging them....oh well,) but all the ricers get greddy stuff and plaster their cars with Greddy stickers...thats the only reason I don't want to be affiliated with them...I also know they make ****ty headers for the 240's that crack...Anyway, back to the question! Cheap, short shift knob? Where? I agree the heavy shift knob is probably there for a reason, but I also know that a lighter shift knob probably won't be THAT much lighter so shouldn't make that much of a difference...How much are the Nismo ones

lol I've got a carbon fiber shifter that cost about $100-150. Of course I didn't pay for it, a friend gave it to me. he didn't like it *wtf it accually has real leather on it* but anyway, it's so damn light that when my transmission is cold if I don't pump the clutch twice when changing gears 3rd grinds like a mofo going it.

That is true, ricers do plaster greddy crap all over their car, even though all they got is an exhaust.

I got a Razo knob for free (from my friend who didn't like it....for what reason I don't know, I think it looks hot). He said he got it for like 40 bucks. My transmission now grinds gears pretty easily too. I could use a rebuild, but its strugglin while I save up for a swap.

A Nismo knob is probably pricey.

Are you guys serious? It really grinds gears that easy? Anyone actually weigh the stocker vs. the aftermarke ones they put on? How can it make gear grinding easier? What exactly entails "gear grinding?"

Are you sure your not talking about the actual shifter? A knob doesn't make it shorter, lighter yes, shorter no. Anyway, you could just take a ball with a screw hole in the end and screw it on. (That came out really odd, just don't think about it)

a lighter shift knob doesnt make it grind more, it makes the problem more obvious.

I know it doesn't make the shift shorter...but it physically makes the shift lever, from bearing to top of knob smaller, because the knob is smaller (vertically!)Tino, any pics of your car?

I've seen Nismo shift knobs for $68-$70. I don't know who sells them right now, though. I'm getting the chrome, weighted, Greddy knob pretty soon.

Yes, funny you should say that about the greddy, thats what kinda shift knob I got. The Greddy Counter-weight shift knob. Nice gunmetal chrome color, with 3 different colored shift pattern inserts to put on it. Cost me $38 from http://www.nipponpower.com, they are outta florida. Shipping was another $9 though! Ouch...

Sweet! Good choice. When I get one it will be from Intercrew Auto Salon in Dallas, they sell them for $39 plus tax, so not too bad. Let me know how you like it, I probably won't get mine for another month.
