Mine usually fluxuates anywhere between 600 and 800, so to me that is normal.

okay thank you man... yeah i had to re-set my timing cuz before it was wrong and the car was miss-firing so i set it back to 15btdc and it doesn't seem to do it anymore but now when i was giving it gas there was a loud backfire-pop-pop sound from the exhuast.... guessing it did that becasue i have a really really bad exhaust leak. would my guess be right or would something else might still be wrong with my motor???

I don't think an exhaust leak will make the car backfire - it does make the car sound different though.

Do you still have the stock exhaust on? When you change to less restrictive piping and muffler you hear a lot more backfiring and popping. I kinda like it though, lol.

well i have no muffer on it at this time because it fell off.. it was an aftermaker muffer and i ghetoo rig the setup for timing being and it just fell off after a while... and my exhuast leak is kinda hard to explain..... well i'll try my best

okay the black plastic box i guess called the aiv that sits next to the exhuast mainfold... well i got rid of that aiv because i was told i didn't really need it and it would add a better intake sound and maybe like 2 HP gain., well now that i have that gone.... and u know that siliver pipe that was hooked up to it and it's coming out of the stock exhuast pipie.. well my leak is there... i plugged it in with a bolt but didn't seem to stop the leak...

any ideas??

do you know what i mean tho???

thanks again.

I put a steel ball in the rubber hose that was hooked upto the AIV and clamped it down... you need to fix that leak it's putting hot exhaust right into your engine bay and that's not good!

i believe the exhaust leak does/can cause backfire..or your cat is gone. whatever.

i have the same problem. i have a leak on my resonator the size of a baseball, and my cat/o2 sensor is dead from running rich when i was learning to drive stick.

just get rid of the resonator.. who needs it

I just put the rubber hose that went from that pipe to the AIV back on and threaded a big bolt into the end. Then put a hose clamp around it just in case.
