HI - I just bought a 1990 240SX - I notice sometimes there is a faint smell of gas after I park - I smell it once i'm out of the car and walk past it. Any idea what can be causing that? And should I get it checked? Thanx

My friend had an '89 with a similar problem. I started smelling a strong gas smell, so I traced it to the seals on the FI. We replaced them, and found that fuel was still leaking around the third injector. I could SEE the fuel pouring out on to the manifold. I was told by the dealer that it might be a cracked injector, but I had inspected them and they were fine. Thank God, because injectors cost $120/ea.

so...........

Well, after a few days, the amount of gas coming out of the injector was too much to handle, so we broke down and took it to the dealer. They inspected it and said that he needed new injectors (not 1, but 4!!!) Well, this dealer is pretty cool and only charged me for 15 min. diagnostic (cost $15), but they wanted $127.00/ea for the injectors. Forget that. Anyway, the point is, that my friend found some aftermarket replacements, and which cost $60.00 ea. We installed them and cured the problem.

Thanks to everyone for their input.....is this something that any garage can check for me, or should I take it to the local Nissan dealer/garage?

Thanx!!!

You can take it to any garage and they'll fix it. Dealer too, but they charge an arm and a leg.

pull the fuel rail with all the plumbing attached and turn the key on. when the pump puts pressure in the line you'll know if you have a leaky injector. that is how i found mine. and troubleshooted leaky orings. more than likely its the orings. they crap out over time.
