A month or so ago my check engine light went on because I had a fuel injector go bad. I replaced it. Everything's great except the check engine light's still on. I need to get it smogged asap and they won't touch it with the light on. I tried unplugging my battery for an hour or two. Nada. Then I heard Autozone could check it and clear it for me so I went there today and the salesman and I spent like 40 minutes searching for the place to plug in with no luck. According to his computer it's on passenger side in cavity behind glove box. Well I looked. Then I pulled the box out and we looked. Nothing. Could someone please tell me exactly where it is? Pictures would even be better. I need to get this taken care of right away and you guys are always so helpful. Thanks in advance. -Glyph

The ECU (or ECM or ECCS Control Module) is typically in the passenger side footwell just to the right of where your right foot would rest. It's on the side wall behind the carpet and a little traingular piece of interior molding.

Here's a pic from the FSM.. not the best though

To try to describe it better... open the passenger side door. Then follow the door sill from the seat toward the front of the car. As the door sill starts to curve up, look at the triangular plastic piece that is positioned vertically. The ECU should be behind that plastic piece.

sure thing! I love to help out my friends in the 'vert forum!

funny thing is, I had to consult the FSM because I don't have the stock KA engine or ecu anymore. I assume my RB20 ECU is in the very same location as the old KA one was... but I am not 100% sure. The diagram from the FSM seems to support that.

Thanks for the info. Funny, I did see that while looking but we didn't see where the code reader might plug into it. I'll have to check again. I've had my battery disconnected all night so maybe it's reset by now. Either way, thanks again, -Glyph

Okay, so I can find the ecu no problem. The directions for obtaining the codes tell me to use a screwdriver to change the mode settings but I'd swear there is nothing of the sort on mine. I just don't get uit. It shouldn't be that hard. Anyone done this before? Anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong. All my ecu seems to have anywhere on it is one screw/bolt holding the wiring loom/harness to the front of it. That's it. I'm going nuts trying to figure this out and I'm running out of time. I can't afford right now to take it to the dealership or some other shop to have them read it for me (they want $70 tp $100). Help. -Glyph
