yes sir, that is correct. take out that piece and viola, the thermostat! put the new one in, use a sealant and you're done. Make sure you put it in the same way the old one came out! Put the metal piece and tube back on, and then bleed the system PROPERLY! if you do not bleed it properly you will have problems.put the car on a hill/jack it upturn it on, put the heat on hightake off the radiator cap, start unscrewing the bleeder screw, and air/fluid should start pouring out. keeping pouring in 1/2 water 1/2 coolant into the radiator cap, and lots of bubbles will be pouring out the bleeder screw. squeeze the lower and upper radiator hoses to make sure you get all of the air out, then once no more air is coming out the bleeder screw, only coolant, close up the bleeder screw, top off the radiator, then close it up with the cap and you're done!While you're replaceing the thermostat you should replace the radiator cap as well, and maybe even the water pump if it hasen't been done in a while.
