The subject says it all.

I finally got my ELM327 and the CVTz50 app for my Samsung. I've done on-line searches - including this forum and YouTube. Everything on YouTube is very generic. Lots of hits on this forum but nothing for the actual connection.

I looked under the dash near the fuse box, where the internet says it usually is, but could not see anything that looked like that type of connector. I even used a flashlight.

A picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks.

According to Hum by Verizon your OBD-II Port can be found at bottom edge of driver’s side dash, under the steering wheel

YUP! There it is. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!
My next challenge is to get my ELM327 & CVTz50 to function properly. It's finding the ELM327 OK, but then I get Not detected for the CVT & ECU monitors. I'll keep trying. Hopefull I can also learn how to do a screenshot on my Samsung.

Try two things in CVTz50 setup. First, try applying the "version 2.15 fix" even though your adaptor is a 1.5. Secondly, try selecting the transmission type as Nissan CVT8 or CVT7 instead of generic. On our '13 Altie, it wouldn't read until I did both of those.

Where do I find these? There is no SETUP or SETTINGS buttons on the main screen.
I went to http://cvtz50.info looking for these and still could not find them.
Also, each time I select an option on the main screen, I have to rescan for devices and reselect OBDII. After a few seconds, I get a connection lost message.
In the meantime, here's some screenshots. What does this tell you?

Should be in the pulldown in the upper right corner. Three vertical dots, then go to Settings -> Connection.

The engine must be running (or at least the key should be in the "run" position) and the ELM adapter connected in order to see and change all the parameters.
I find the "2.15 fix" that VStar mentions but I can't find anywhere to change the CVT type. I sent an email to CVTInfo and asked the question. They're usually quick to respond.

Just got this back from CVTInfo:
"CVTz50 automatically recognizes transmission type and remembers it until CVTz50 closed.
Also it is possible to manually select cvt type in Menu->Settings->Connection if option “ELM327 v2.15 workaround” enabled.
Best regards,
cvtz50.info"

It should be in there, right beneath the v2.15 workaround box. Should be labeled "CVT Type for ELM327 v2.15" and tapping it should pop up a menu with radio buttons. The first 3 choices should be Generic/Murano, Nissan CVT7 and Nissan CVT8. Our '13 Altima wanted CVT8, it wouldn't work with the Generic or CVT7. Your Quest may be different since you have the 6-cyl tranny.

ELM327 v2.15 workaround is greyed out. Now what? Also, any thoughts on why it is always loosing connection to the ELM 327?

The only other thing I recall having to do was specify the ELM adaptor in the connections menu, not let it auto-select "OBDII". Might be something with your phone, mine is an elderly Samsung S6A. You might need to dial back something in your BT parameters that my old horse didn't require.

The adapter makes all the difference. Read this and see if your adapter complies:

He has a genuine v1.5, which is what the CVTz50 site recommended. I used a v1.5 also but it was a clone.

I think maybe this might be the problem. The adapter I received, after ordering an ELM327, does not look anything like the picture in the ad. I haven't taken it apart to look at the inside. I think I got scammed. This is getting close to the F<>k it phase.

Only OBDII is listed under connections, not ELM327. Of course, there's My Car and some other thing with just addresses.

Yep, I bet they sent you a clone. That's some sad stuff.

This is cute:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... n_US&gl=US

Doesn't seem bulletproof, I'd imagine cloners could evaluate which commands it exercises and dummy those specific tests, but I'd also imagine most cloners won't bother until this app becomes common knowledge. I'm going to download it later today and see what it says about my clone v1.5's. Will post back the results.

Well, gee, that was completely painless and very cool. My China-cheap adaptor from eBay claimed to be a v1.5, and indeed the Identifier app shows it supports everything v1.4b or lower plus one function from v2.0. That makes it a functional v1.5, clone or not. Unfortunately the eBay vendor I got it from is out of stock, or I'd recommend it. Here's the link anyway, in case he gets more. For $4.95, color me happy with the purchase:

Opened the clone up and the circuit board appears to be identical to this one from the CVTz50 website:

ELM327 Clone.png
Maybe the cloners have tweaked the firmware to make it "not so bad" instead of "bad" for the CVTz50 app. I'm not sure why the arrow in the pic is pointing to that SOIC chip anyway, that's obviously just a bluetooth stack/driver. The QFN chip to the left is the brains (incredible what you can do with a chip smaller than your pinkie nail, ain't it?) If I can identify the brain chip I'll post back, I have some solvent for removing chip masking but sometimes it removes the lettering too.

I think this whole discussion shows that a CVTz50 forum would be helpful...

I'll second that. Or maybe a more-generic Scanner forum.

I just checked. 8:10 PM PDT 10/30/2021. They had 10 in stock. I ordered one. ETA 11/9. So, there should be 9 more. :dblthumb:

Yep, I figured. Rogue can delete the earlier one for you if you want. While I'm here, the mystery chip is still a mystery, the chemicals wiped out the numbers. The only thing I can say for sure is that it isn't an 18F25K80 flatpack. Microchip does make a QFN version, but the datasheet says it's 28-pin and not 36 like the clone.
