man, this sucks. me, my pop, and my friend were trying to remove his starter from his 91 240 and was stuck trying to get the last one off. Me and my pop recently took my off before and there was no prob, maybe because my was a sohc and there was alot of room. His was crambed tight with wires (dohc). We took the two thats located on the bottom. and we know there's one on top. but we can't find it, anybody can help me with this.

Try feeling around the top of the transmission ( it's better to be under the car to achieve this). That last bolt was a pain to get to when i changed my starter. I believe its easier if you have a socket wrench that can pivot. I had to hold the wrench in place while a friend of mine turned it from the top of the car. ALso i thought the starter was held with 2 bolts only?

The top bolt is right by the solonoid boss at the top.wrap your fingers around the solonoid on the starter and slide you hand toward the trans you will feel the bolt touch your thumb or your finger when you hit it.

swivel sockets are your friend. Took me a whole day just to change my starter.

I have an 89 sohc, it would have been a lot easier if I removed my heater hose (didn't - that's why it took a whole day). So if worse comes to worse, remove the lines that are in the way of the starter.

If I remember it correctly (and if dohc is same as sohc), that last bolt is really close to the firewall toward the back... where you have about 3-4 fingers of clearance - I swear, sometimes I looks like Nissan put the starter in first, then built the car around it, ahhaha.

Get someone w/ small hands if possible.

Like the other guys said, you probably will barely be able to see the bolt, you just have to "feel it up".

Good luck!
