My gf got in her 2004 Maxima SL and her navigation screen took a while to load up and she says it said "disc read error" or something like that. My question is where is the DVD system located at so I can make sure the disc is ok. And another question I have is has Nissan offered an updated disc for the navigation? If so where can I get one and how much do they cost? Thanks for your help guys

The DVD is hidden behind the storage compartment in the center console.Open the compartment door and you should see a removable section at the lower rear of the compartment. Remove that, and you'll see the nav system DVD ROM drive.

For updated Nav DVDs, call Nissan's Navigation Systems Help Desk (1-888-661-9995).

Before you buy a new DVD map disc, make sure that it is the problem. It could be that the disc has many scratches that causes that read error, but make sure that is the problem. A new disc will cost you around $300. Another possible cause of the disc error is the navigation unit itself, and I am afraid that if that is the case, you need to replace the navigation unit, but you can still use your current DVD map disc.
