Hello. I posted this to the regular 240SX forum, but I received no replies. And I really do need help here...

Which side of the engine is the AT dipstick on??

Is it easy to see and easy to find??

I may have lost transmission fluid. I am experiencing massive slipping, and when I went to check the trans fluid level, I couldn't and still can't find the AT dipstick or the tube that goes to the transmission.

So where is it suppose to be?? Driver side?? Middle of engine bay?? The FSM is no help.

'94 auto A link to a picture is appreciated...

Thanks Malac0da13...

The '94 is about 10 miles away from me, and the owners manual is, of course, locked in the trunk of the car.

I didn't look under the vehicle for the tube, and I went crazy trying to find it yesterday afternoon.

It crapped out on the way home from work and shopping. I was enjoying my new fuel injector, and top down, I was dancing through traffic.

OK, that was until I noticed the engine rev to 5k and the 240sx not move any faster ! ! ! I got over to the side ASAP, and let it cool down for a couple of hours.

I can move the car, but I think the transmission needs attention.

Thanks again. I will look closer. Since the filler tube is on the passenger side, could it be that the mechanic removed that to get to the fuel injector rail?? And not replaced it??

I just got it back from the mechanic, with about 20-50 miles before the loss of transmission action.

Barry -

The autotrans dipstick on your 94 is towards the rear of the motor, near the firewall, on the passenger side. It SHOULD have a yellow handle, but might not...

Convertibles are notorious for AT problems, so keep that in mind. There are some threads here about repair.

Thanks, guys.....

I went down the road (8 miles) to the convert and found the dip stick. Just as you say, passenger side - firewall - nestled down . The mechanic said he did not remove it to do the FIs.

I checked the transmission fluid and it was NOT low. I guess I just blew the transmission.

There is a place in Arizona I think that is a major rebuilter of trannys so I guess I have my work cut out for me. The last time I had the transmission replaced, I got one on the internet. This is the one that just blew on me. I would have gotted the professionally rebuilt one if I hadn't gotten this used on first.

Question: do I junk the 240SX?? I estimate the value around $2,000, only because there is a lot of decent parts"

GOOD:Brand new Tiger Paw tires, less than 100 miles.Powder coated the rims for ease of brake dust cleaning4 year new 2 tone leather seats1 new fuel injector (hurray!!)White body, very, very decent.decent top (new rear window when leather seats done)Compression 180-180 (cold) all around.AC and heat are finePower windows and top are fineNew radiatorNew front KEVLAR brake pads (not yet installed)

BAD:Smokes, even after a top end rebuild 3 years ago.transmission slips 90% Undriveable165,000

It drives smooth, and was really responding when I saw my revs top out with no change of speed.. But damn, it WAS a nice day for a top down drive through traffic!!

Do I keep it or cut my losses.

I have two VW camper buses (A 1978 for the past 12 years, and a 1976 for the past 2+ years), and I have to get rid of one of those ASAP, and the other in a few years. Maybe get into a Honda Civic .

I forgot to mention that I am a senior citizen (over 65) and maybe it's time to close up shop on all the fun times.....

Opinions??

Keep and repair, or cut and run..

I know I am preaching to the choir, and I really would like to keep the 240SX, but sensibility say let it go...
