I'm not too sure it's a good idea to attempt an oil change if you are unsure of what or where your mud flaps are.

Kinda true, so if you don't know how to change the oil, take it to Jiffy Lube or Wal Mart, but against my better judgement....to get to the oil filter, there's a plastic skid plate which is pretty much just a plastic barrier to keep crap out of the bottom of the engine, which works about as well as tits on a boar. 6 little bolts (10mm, if I remember correctly), and it falls on your face, along with years of dirt and crap. You can see and change the oil filter. Put it back on when you're done, don't lose the bolts. It's pretty much worthless, so if you intend to do any offroading, get the solid steel one off of 4x4parts.com. I've bashed the hell out of mine and broken big rocks into little ones and only managed to chip some paint off of that beast. Makes oil changes a PITA, though.

I've been changing my own oil ever since I could drive. Its just different since all I've had was honda's and acuras. Everything isnt in the same place that I'm used to.

Yeah sixguns got it. Just take off the plastic 'skid plate' and you should see the filter.

Yeah. An impact wrench makes short work of it.

PITA = pain in the a**.

looks like you got to it, to make your life easier if you havent removed it yet get a GOOD oil filter wrench, i mean wrench, not a strap style!

steel skid plate! omg! id love that.....

sure its a pita to remove it, but we dont have to put the thing on jacks to change oil so its not that bad.

I was thinking of using that black thick undercoat paint on my stock skid plate but it probably wont stay shiny for long nor stick right since its plastic
