Looking good Jeff I'm glad to see your still kicking. Jeep looks like it's coming along. I personally like the air hole in the firewall. lol

I know I've never owed them before now they want more money. That's how I show my patriotism.

Seriously WTF, I guess that's the benefit of living in the desert. There is no way I will ever have that much man space and still live inside the Beltway. I'll have to go for a bar instead of a garage.

My 327 crank pulley rests over the front axle so I guess you could say its "mid" engined??

I didn't want the Jeep to wander at speed.

The hole in the firewall is for stoplight racing timing adjustments :-) Just stick your hand under the dash and turn for an extra 25 hp.

I spent $7,000 in 2001 on building the 327 it is full roller. Should make around about 400-450 hp and have good low range torque.

The gears are 4.56 front and rear, the transmission is a rebuilt Chevy truck SM420 with a 7:1 granny first and my Spicer 18 transfer case has a 2.8:1 low range. I should be able to climb anything.

My garage is a 3 car with a tandem 2nd half. I saw the garage and knew I had found our house. I had the builder run extra dedicated outlets including a single 240 volt 50amp on its own line. I also had the garage pre-plumbed for a sink that I never put in.

Man, I want to go mudding with you in that thing. Oh wait, there is no mud in the desert. Climbing would be a blast in that thing.

Now I know a thing or two about jeeps but isn't 2.8:1 a crappy ratio?

I think my jeep has a 3.73:1... Isn't that better for off road?

lower is better for climbing things and for quick acceleration.

I was wrong my transfer case is 2.46:1

Your gears in your Jeeps diff are 3.73:1 thats good, the gears in my Jeeps diffs are 4.56:1 :-)

Article about the Spicer 18 AKA the best transfer case everhttp://www.4wheeloffroad.com/t....html

Smockers we get mud in the desert, it rains about 10 times a year and our fine powder dust makes some really really sticky mud.

Why are there a lot of people that swap their final drive in the G to a higher gear ratio?

Looks like a consequence of demo without a plan. I stripped the interior of my first car (85 CJ5) and removed many thing that were vital to maintaining the ability to move, while in my parents driveway.

Garage looks good, I have seen many people throw a good chunk of their fun money, to adding coordinating floors. I like the clean simple look, plus just having it wired and plumbed is the biggest PITA of building a garage "correctly". Can't wait to see more of it.

quicker acceration in exchange for a lower top speed. Slightly better gas mileage in town if you use the surge coast method of hypermiling.

You can acheive the same basic effect of taller gears by changing to shorter tires. I went from 225/55/17 to 235/45/17 for quicker acceleration.

The G's rear gears are a pretty decent 3.69:1 stock. My Hemi Ram came with 3.55 gears stock I went to 3.92 and gained about 4 tenths in the 1/4 mile.

I think 4.10/4.11 gears are over rated. If your going to 4:1 rear you might as well go all the way and do 4.56 or 4.88

ALOT of planning went into the swap. I belong to the Arizona Virtual Jeep Club and there are a few guys really helped me plan ahead. I even drove all over AZ looking at other V8 swaps.

If you look closely you will see I have the only 1965 CJ-5 with hung brake and clutch pedals and power brakes and hydralic clutch that I know of. To make that work I needed to add material to the 1/8th inch thick fire wall, since I was going to end up with a modified firewall anyway I choose to cut in favor of getting the motor as far back as possible. Once the motor is in and running when I do the interior I will go ahead and weld in a 1/2 inch thick steel box to complete the tub again.

The stop light timing adjustment was my buddies joke, I'd leave it but it would never pass NHRA inspection at the track and 400+hp in a 2000lb vehicle should be good for a very scary low 13 in Phoenix air. It would make a better 1/8th mile racer, you don't really want to be going much past 75mph in a vehicle that is almost as wide as it is long
