Hello, I changed my thermostat today (on a 1992) and noticed a wire in my engine bay attached to nothing. I checked it and it was hot too!Anyway, it is a lavender blue wire with a black stripe near the thermostat area. I cannot find anything that it should hook to.Can someone look at their engine bay and see what that wire normally goes to?

After a little research, I found that wire is for the "thermal transmitter"...I guess that means the temperature sensor.

So my question now is where is this located...what does it look like? I found what I believed to be the sensor, but there is nothing to attact it to, so I am still not sure.

No the end plug is still there. I just need to know where it plugs back in.This plug has a female single spade connection - a black plug.

Here is a picture of what I am asking about. Can someone simply look under their hood and tell me where this attaches?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't attach anywhere. My idea is it's either for some type of add-on, or for the AUTO transmission on the car. I don't really have any problems with my car and that is disconnected on my car as well. There's also another plug near the transmission that isn't plugged in (yet it still has a cover, so you can tell it's not meant to be plugged into a manual transmission!) If I'm wrong on that connector in the front, tell me where it goes, but I'm guessing it goes nowhere. I've owned A LOT of vehicles with random, unused plugs that just lie around.

That plug is for the temp sensor that goes to your interior gauge...it should plug in to the coolant discharge tube (upper coolant tube) right beside the temp sensor for your ecu. It just kinda plugs onto a single prong sticking out of the tube

Ahh, the pic didn't load for me when I initially replied. Yeah, that one's plugged in I think. I have another one that isn't though. I'll have to post a pic later for help

Yes, that is true. To wrap this one up, another forum member emailed me this picture (below). The thing on the right is where that is supposed to plug in. On my car it appears the tab is broken off on the sensor which is why I coudn't figure it out. So I will need to buy another sensor or at least try to solder something to it.

I soldered a wire to the sensor's tip (the tab was apparently broken off) and now my heat gauge works again! I guess that will hold me until I can order a new sensor.
