Where does this hose go to from the float on a 1991 SE-R?

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

The rubber part of this hose gets attached to the gas tank float "line in." Now that the old pump is out, I don't know where the metal end of this piece goes. I think it goes underneath the "coffin" where the fuel pump is positioned but I don't see and can't feel any connecting point. I'm wondering if it just sits in the tank as a return feed or if it connects to "something" that is impossible to see. If you did a fuel pump replacement you will know what I mean. I took it out when I removed the old fuel pump and thought it would be obvious how it went back in - not. There is no diagram of his connection in the FSM.

Is this the correct assembly, seems to work but it almost seems the end of the piping should be attached to something?

That is how I installed it.
