Mine is just hanging on side wall in trunk. Its just hanging from nipple on filler neck.Trying to figure out why tank isnt holding pressure, tighten every clamp I could get to,still smelling faint gas smell in trunk.Found gas smell on outside because of passenger cat has small slit.

Here's a slide show of the fuel tank and filler tube area.

I think the tube is the overflow drain that should exit the vehicle's body to carry away water or spilled fuel. You can see where the overflow drain begins in the following pictures.

My q has a red rubber tube hanging off filler neck, that looks like a drain tube, but I dont see where it drains from body to outside. Its not attached to anything else. There also are two clear plastic hoses joined together that are fitted into a hole in quarter panel, but have no idea where to plug red hose into.Have to check again,as I think I dont have a metal line like that drain tube on car.

I went outside and poured about 2 tablespoons of jet fuel (since it has a low flash point) down the little hole. It disappeared down the line that runs down the rear fender well. I wanted to see if the fuel would drip out of the car. No drips could be found. The position of the drain allows both fuel from an overfill and water from a wash or hard rain to run down that hole and exit via that line..

I checked the FSM on page EC 7 and that line is not in the diagram. So I"m stumped on this one.

I literally just replaced my whole fuel tank with a new unit...the red hose is your overflow hose in case you overfill your gas.

Take off your trunk liner and expose the gas tank....look to the right where the filler neck is. If you look at your gas cap side, you see a small hole....on the backside of this hole is a metal nipple (you can see the nipple when you remove that liner in the trunk). The red hose attaches to that nipple and then runs down right behind the passengers side rear wheel. SOMETIMES the hose can snake its way up into the trunk area so you wont be able to see it poking out into the atmosphere. If that is the case, remove you entire trunk liner and snake that red hose from the bottom up into the trunk and attach it to the nipple.

I have pictures if you need them.

You just route it outside, behind the rear wheel....it just hangs there and vents to atmosphere, outside the car.
