Where do you put your phone?

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

So this has been a niggly annoyance since I got my EX actually, but I'm only now thinking of what to do to remedy it.

Just where do you put your mobile phone? I'm mentioning it now because I normally just leave it on the centre bit next to the gear lever, which has never been ideal. This morning on the way to work, I went round a right hand bend, and apparently the centrifugal forces were greater than the frictional forces between my Blackberry and the shiny wood, and it slid somewhere under my seat. And then it rang. And I had turned my bluetooth off to save the battery.

So yeah. The EX sucks when it comes to storage, but these days everybody and their dog has a mobile phone, so I'm just wondering what ingenious solutions other people have to the lack of handy places to stash said portable device.

I don't want to sucker it to the windscreen, and there isn't that much free dashboard space to sucker it to either.

Ideas?

I leave my cell in my pocket, or I use my ipod space in the center console and my ipod moves to the bottom of the console. "Using cellular device while operating a vehicle is illegal" just let your BTH do its job.

I know for some of us EX is not good in a storage but i only see that complaints from guys, i guess its because we dont carry purses/handbags.

I leave my Moto SLVR L7 clipped to me and use the Bluetooth extensively in the car. I rarely have to use the handset since I use the EX's phonebook or voice dialing. (BTW, I've never had a battery drain problem.)

It's actually not illegal. 5 states plus D.C. have a ban on holding the phone while driving. Pennsylvania isn't one of them. Laws like this are for people who have no common sense, and where do you stop? Phones these days do so much more than make/receive calls. Where do you draw the line?

Changing the song on your phone that you have 8gb of music on and have plugged into your audio in socket versus getting a cd out of its case and putting it in the cd player.

Reading a 2 line email that comes through on your phone versus opening and drinking a can of soda/cup of coffee.

Reading the navigation directions on your phone versus reading them on your factory nav unit or a tom-tom.

Chatting on your phone versus chatting to the other people in your car.

Sending a text message versus a woman putting makeup on (which I've seen countless times).

Anyway, I do have common sense, and will continue to use my phone when I see fit, regardless of any stupid laws that may or may not be in effect.

But where to put the bloody thing?!! lol

And I normally have my bluetooth on, this weekend though I left my wall charger at the office, and my car charger in a friends car, so my battery was down to nearly zilch. This is what prompted me to post today, the one time I don't have my bluetooth on, my phone ends up under my seat!

Didnt know you were in PA, anyways soon the law will change, since many traffic officers claiming young drivers can be distracted when they text while driving. and im sorry all places i can think of is the cup holder/ipod space/in my pocket. Other places are well hidden, you might forget to take the phone when you exit your vehicle.

I have been thinking phone locations with my old vehicles..... my only answer is Cup holder...

You would agree with me when someone hits you from behind and he/she is still texting.

Normally, I leave it clipped to my belt but occasionally, I leave it in the cup-holder area.

However, I do forget it there at times and leave the car!

I always use the Blue tooth thu. Isn't that why I bought it??

I usually keep my iphone in my pocket but if i do use it in the car the door pull pocket is great. Since cup holder always has a Coke in it, no coffee in this EX

I turn on the bluetooth and keep it in my pocket. I entertain calls only during driving so no need to push buttons on the phone. Come on people lets be responsible here! =)

Here in Canada I think they are close to making it law to have hands free while driving.

My BlackBerry Bold lives very happily to the right of the shifter. Back of the device has a leather finish that grips fairly well on the ridge beside the maple wood. I previously had a BlackBerry Curve and put a rubber friction sticker on the back and it stayed put almost anywhere.I am very pleased with the Blue Tooth integration. Good quality sound.

I would agree with the sound quality and reception too.

My previous vehicle was a 2007 BMW(X3) and callers now tell me they can hear me much better for some reason! .. OK OK ...it's a new car

I usually place my Motorola Q9c in the cup holder, but mostly on the center console, next to the gear shift lever. However this prevents me from being able to pull the lever to the left for sport shifting or DS (I think that's what it is called)

I have been placing most things in the cup holder (wallet, house keys, phone). The key fob stays in my pocket for convenience. The cup holder is just an easier place to get to; the rear console compartment is indeed difficult to access while you are seated. Doesn't bother me much though. I really like the way it all looks visually and am willing to give up a little in access to get the good looks that it has (IMO).

As for the phone, I use bluetooth 100% of the time. The phonebook through the car is really easy to use while driving and I find that I almost never actually have to look at the phone for anything.

As for using the phone while driving and the safety of this, not too long ago here in SoCal we had a train accident where the driver had been texting and missed a stop light. Got a bunch of people killed including himself. Talking doesn't bother me or most people, but the laws are designed for the lowest common denominator.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents...

I have a nice thin sleek flip phone that fits very conveniently in the slot to the left of the power plug. I think that's what they designed it for. I can even have it charging while in there. I guess the Japanese designers at Infiniti didn't realize that many people have bigger PDA phones that don't fit in there.. This oversight ranks right up there with not being able to copy music from the CF card to the 10gb harddrive and not being able to easily switch albums in the music box while driving, yet you can do this on the CF card. Sometimes I wonder about those Japanese. lol Actually the whole center console has space design issues.. e.g. two cups can't fit in the cup holders at once, all but the smallest power adaptors interfere with the shifter, etc..

I also toss my Bberry in the door whenever I drive the car. I like that the door pocket is lined, so the phone doesn't rattle around.

Blackberry fits nicely in the felt-lined "ashtray" in front of the shifter. Or I will stash it in the door pocket if I leave it in the holster.

Bluetooth always on; just makes getting in and out of the car with the phone brainless - the EX bluetooth connection is really good. If you are having battery issues, perhaps get a new battery? They don't hold as long a charge if they are more than a year old or so. (Or get an extended battery.)
