for those of you who have a box in ur trunk, do you all mount ur amp on the box itself, if so, which side?? or has anyone ever tried mounting the amp on the back board that goes between the trunk and the gas tank?? about how heavy of an amp will that support??? i just got a pyle bluewave amp, and i think it looks good, and kinda wanna show it off more than just slapping it on my box. im even thinkin about replacing the backboard there with maybe some lexan, or even plywood any positives or negatives at all????

the reason i ask, is cuz my old amp died, i have reason to believe that it could have been do to a lack in airflow

that backboard isnt strong enough to hold an amp...i have an alpine 1 channel 1000 watt that i just mounted to the top of my box directly in the center

That piece that covers the gas tank won't support anything. I actually removed mine and built a panel out of MDF and mounted my amp and sub in it. That way I didn't lose any trunk space and I still have a sub. It was a little time consuming and I got lazy and never covered it in carpet, but it does the job. If you want I can take a pic in the next few days so you can see what I mean. I don't have the car here right now.

Sloppy, sloppy. Show some pride man.

I built a 1x4 support frame behind the gas tank divider thing on my last J. It looked real nice too. The 1x4s were on the back side of the divider and couldn't be seen. I like the way I have it now (pictures) better.

I know I know...it needs cleaned up

if I had my choice...I would redo it completely, swap out that flimsy panel and fiberglass a box into the space around the gas tank, flush mount a new sub and amp...but been working on my in-law's rental houses to get them ready to rent out, my house and spending time with the kids. Pretty much takes up my spare time. Hoping to get a break before the end of summer though.

I used the back panel, but I mounted both of my amps on a piece of plywood, and attached the plywood to the holes that the back panel bolts up to (that was a pain...) but in the end it looks nice.. not much trunk space left now with my sub in there, but it looks good. If you use the plywood, it can hold the weight if you have it resting on the bottom of the trunk, and angle it some, so not all the weight is on the mounts for the back panel. Right now I have 1 Kicker 250 watt amp, and a 4X50 watt Alpine for my mids and highs, with an Active crossover in the middle. I have an Earthquake Tremor 12 in a low-profile box (I need to make a new box, it's too small for that sub). There are so many ways to mount amps, and if you wanta show off your amp, this is probably the best way.

I don't know how to resize.

This is also a classic case of not wanting to do what you do for a living on your own car. I've been saying I'll finish this for over a year now. I used to have my amp mounted on the panel but I just changed amps and haven't cared to mount this one yet. Its nice because you still have use of every inch of trunkspace this way.
