Price seems typical. I bought one from Topsonline.com. (they sell every once in a while on Ebay for $319.) It came with written instructions (from the Nissan Service Manual Convertible Supplement). The top came marked with installation lines or you can lay the old top over the new one and mark the cut/fold points. The installation took me six or seven hours and came out very well. I had to remove and restaple the top in a couple of places during installation to get rid of wrinkles. Not difficult, just tedious work. No special tools needed but you will need a 3M glue for tacking down the fabric in a couple places.

I had checked on installation and had one quote of $1,150 including the materials.

Yea, my GF just got her stang redone cost her $1075.But she had vinyl 100 cheaper but she had a glass 100 more.So you think I'd be able to do it with maybe an extra person to help hold while I staple etc.?Instructions well enough or have you done it before?

I had done one top before but that was 30 yrs ago and hardly relevant since it was a Triumph Spitfire and a snap off-snap on job - 20 minutes, tops.If you have reasonable tool skills and the instructions from the convertible manual supplement, it is pretty easy. A helper isn't necessary unless they are to fetch the beer.Order of events:First, get a bunch of letter envelopes so you can mark them and fill them with bolts and nuts from each step. Makes reassembly much easier......1. Undo well assembly from tack strip (well assembly is the bag the top drops into when it goes down) (the tack strip is a long piece of plastic wrapped three quarters around with maleable metal. you staple the top to the tack strip and then bolt the tack strip back to the body.2. Remove headliner.3. release tack strip from car frame, mark along the top where it hits the top of tack strip and the front of bow#1.4. Remove top.5. Remove backlight staypad from tack strip only after marking its location.6. Remove backlight assembly (the rear window section of the top) after marking where it hits the top of the tack strip.7. Transfer markings from old top and old backlight assembly onto the new parts. The top I got from Topsonline.com came with lines already marked for where the top and backlight assembly fit to the tack strip - if yours has same, you don't need to worry about marking the top and backlight, just the backlite stay pad.8. Install backlight assembly (slides into slot on bow #4, stapled to tack strip). Test fit tack strip back in place as a check for fit and wrinkles.9. Reattach backlight stay pads to tack strip. Test fit.10. Install top (Staple to tack strip, slides into retainer on bow #4, glue and screws on bow #1 - intall with top slightly open and then closing takes up slack). Test fit tack strip back in place - adjust as necessary.11. Install headliner. Intall top well. Leave top up to set in place for 48 hours. Done.

That's a pretty abbreviated version. The manual has six to ten sub-steps for each of my steps above.

The manual shows removal of the back and quarter belt moldings (the black metal exterior pieces where the top meets the body). I did this but it wasn't necessary. Skip that step.

The manual (and probably all professionals) use a air powered stapler but I did fine with a manual staple gun. Air powered would be easier if you have/can borrow one. You need two lengths of staples. Also need glue 3M P/N 051135-08031 - get a tube, not a spray can.

Good luck. I saw an earlier post by someone who claimed to have done it in four hours but it took me six or seven not including requisite beer breaks.

I had a new rear window put in for $225. Checked it for leaks and found a tiny one just under the top lip. I used 3M super rubber sealant which I had laying around to cure it and now it is leak proof. I need a new front rubber seal. Anyone know where to get one? Thanks, Matt
