Nope, not annoying at all. Ive found my groove and sell 13-15 cars a month. Im not saying i make six figures a year, but i make more than most college grads, and im only 22 and a college drop out. And yea, if you dont sell so many cars your fired, but so far in the past year and a half that hasnt been a problem... wait, wheres some wood *knock knock*
BadMojo wrote:Just out of curiousity, how did you get your job? It seems like sales would be the most desirable job at the dealership (non-technical at least) and would be tough to get.

You know, how i got my job was a funny story. I went in with my brother to test drive the WRX when they first came out. With no intention of buying cause i had just moved back to portland and had no job. Once i went inside after the drive, they tried to close me, and couldnt....not even the sales manager. So the sales manager offered me a job right then and there. After some thinking about it (you know, the whole "car salesman" rep) i said ok. And its been a year and a half now and been awesome!

selling lancer evos is like selling organ transplants. the entire country wants what you have and you can charge any rediculous ****ing amount you want and they will pay it because it is their only option. i encourage all of you to steer clear of mitsu and their snobby attitude towards all the ****y (rhymes with rocky) people out there who feel a need to drive a lancer evo. they only brought it to the US so the gov't will buy a bajillion diamantes/galants for Agency purposes.:thumbd

ok so the last part is just a 3am theory. but the markup on the evo's is rediculous. i guess its just an idiot tax for the people who want to be first on their block to be a knockin' **** blockin rocket. yup.

same profit will be in the WRX STi. We're adding $10,000 markups. Rare car, hot car. And bet your azz were gonna make money on it. And we're gonna have the same attitude you talk of of the lancer guys...."If you ask to negotiate it, you can afford it. Have a nice day."

Yes, they are marking up the Sti and Evo 8 sky high, but the WRX was marked up over it's value when it first came over, and look at the prices of them now! anyone with a brain, and patience will wait for the prices to even out to the vehicle's actual worth, and buy it then.

I got two jobs in the summer I work for my uncle cleaning his shop and working on diesel trucks, I also do inventory and all the crap jobs, but I pull in 300 a week. Plus I detail cars making about 100 a week. The funny thing is I still owe my parents 300 bucks.

youre right, sorta. I agree, you want a better price, wait til the novelty wears off...it costs more to be the first kid on the block with the new toy. Its that was with everything. BUT, theyre are only making 300 STi's a month for the year. some dealers may see as many as 4 a month, some as little as 4 for the year, if they even get one to sell. They are making a ton of the WRXs. Thats the difference. you wait for a lower price on an STi, and there just wont be one for you to buy.

a local dealership was pitching the Cobra R with a 37 THOUSAND DOLLAR adjusted market value, bringing the total to somewhere near 95K...back when it came out a few years ago. the new SVT Cobra had a 12K dealer mark up. car companies are in business to make money, plain and simple.

Well, back to the topic...I forgot to answer the original question.

I'm a Software Engineer, so I sit at a desk all day. The pay is pretty good. I'd like to do something part time with cars, but the friend that I had who ran a shop, went out of business.

Highly skilled recently unemployed Mechanical Engineer. I'd be working in the auto industry if they weren't so busy losing money...

A friend just pointed this page out:http://sr20.hybrids.jp/editorials/mark/and the whole "put together a 240sx while jobless" kinda appeals to me. Except that I hate spending money when I have no measurable income.

Uh well I hope to graduate next summer. Thats if everything goes as planned. Not sure what then, in your opinion, is grad school worth it? Im thinking of going for a masters in electrical engineering to get into the automotive industry.

I think grad school can be worth it. Make sure you use your degree though. Many people get educated and then work in a different field. Be sure to talk to someone in the industry and see what they think. It wouldn't help me very much. That's why I haven't done it. Also, I hate school. Either way, you should make enough money to put plenty of food on the table. :)
