I don't know much about cars. So, where do I put the brake fluid?

The quick answer... in the master cylinder. It's bolted on to the brake booster (big round black thing) on the firewall right in front of the driver. There's a clear resivoir with a black or yellow cap on it that you remove. Add the fluid until you get it up to the "max" line.

You might go to http://www.nissan-techinfo.com...id=54 and download a 1996 owner's manual if you don't have one. The DIY section is surprisingly detailed for these cars.

Your question brings up another one for me... why are you asking? If your fluid level has dropped substantially, I would recommend having the whole system checked for leaks. Failing brakes are nothing to mess with! There will be some drop in fluid as your brake pads wear, but not that much.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I am getting the whole car looked at next Friday and I just need a quick fix until then. I only drive the car about 4 miles a day, so I am hoping that this will do the trick.

Since for most people cars are their 2nd most expensive monthly use of funds after housing and its associated expenses. And will represent $350,000- $500,000 [per car] over a normal driving life, automotive education is quite cost effective...........even if it saves you only $50,000.
