I recently took a trip down to srswap, and although the motors were good, the price is kind of out there. I want to spend about 2k on the motor, because there is just so much more to buy, I already bought the gt28r turbo and 550cc injectors.thanks for any inputI can pick it up if it is a reasonable amount of distancethanks

ebay...Some places on ebay are very shady, but half of the reputable importers in Washington state over here sell their inventory solely on ebay. Try to check out feedback and such.

Ebay is fine if you do your research.

I got mine from Japan.

Only spending 2K for the swap itself is a risky move. In my opinion you get what you pay for. Considering that the swap is the foundation on which the whole project stems from, get the best most complete swap you can find. Add the other items on as you go. Just search and see how many guys got burned with the promise of a "sweet deal" only to find out what they bought was a POS - if it even showed up.

Good luck.

I got my SR from http://www.truboost.com. It is an extremely clean and strong engine and truboost has very competitive price and they also sponsor 240sx.org

For $2,000 you will probably get a bad motor. That is very cheap. With prices the way that they are, you will probably spend around $2,500 for a motor set.

hmm technically noI've seen from plan b for 2200 shipped to my door from FLA,so I assume if I am going to pick it up, it should be more than 2k.However If I can get a clip for 2500, I will because then I will have the intercooler and all the other things that I will need, instead of buying.ANy ideas I wished I live closer to all the cheaper stores

If you are able to see a motor before you buy it, I would definitely do it. Had I seen even the outward condition of mine, I wouldn't have had to undergo an expensive rebuild.

You get what you pay for, so don't cheap out.

Let me get this strait, you are within "visit" distance of one of the greatest SR shops on the planet and you can inspect the motor before you pick it up if you decide to buy there. But instead, you want to buy a "cheap" motor off some store over 1000 miles away with questionable reputation?

I would say it is totally foolish to risk so much for such a small amount of money. If your looking to spend as little as possible, be prepared to be ripped off, repeatedly. I used to play that game, and I have lost over $1000 durring the last 2 years that could have been saved had I gone with reputable and reliable vendors for parts. From bad used parts, to wrong parts, to parts that just never show up, I've experienced it all, and its not worth the aggravation and money lost.

^^^Im with him. I bought mine from Heavy Throttle. Never had a problem with it. If you are looking for a motor set thats 2 grand with no problems, maybe you should look at some Honda B16's...

The thing is, with heavy throttle, they are legit, but their prices are crazy. They tried to sell me their package deal for 5k, and wtf is a spec clutch?I just need some options, cuz I already spent 700 on a used gt28rs and 400 for the 550c injectorsany comments>

IMO spec is one of the best clutches on the market. Ive never heard of anyone having any trouble with them on any car. i have one in my mazda and my buddy has one in his sr'd 240. as far as 5k being a "crazy price" you obviously havent done your research. ive figured up the price of everything i need from 4-5 different sites and all of them have been at least 5k

good luck finding a good motor for 2grand. I would go with any motor from HEAVYTHROTTLE. Theyre awesome. Jeff is the easiest guy to deal with, and he is happy to answer any questions you might have. Even if hes really busy. They stand behind every motor they sell. I suggest checking them out at heavythrottle.com.

Lowest price I've noticed is from JazzProParts.com at $2500 shipped. Like others have said, you may be able to find cheaper on eBay but you'll need to do some research on the seller and make sure you know exactly what all is being sent to you. If you can afford it, go for a front clip instead of just the motorset. That way you can test the motor as soon as it shows up, you'll have a reference point of how things fit, and you may get other beneficial parts from the clip. Good luck!

Prime example of why you buy from a reputable company: I tried a place here in virginia, manassas to be exact, called," Noyan USA" got to see the motors myself which was a plus. I also got to see them before the were cleaned up(another plus). The shop was a little shady... they allowed me to take parts off of another car and put them on the clip I wanted. So I found one I liked and me and my dad were going up there with a trailer to pick it up....... we totaled a very very beautiful 96' dodge ram 1500 . I called to let them know I had been in an accident and wasn't going to be there in time to get it. He said he had sold my clip that morning(for less money) after promising to hold it... I was coming with cash in hand. So I bought a front clip from ARDPerformance.com They were one of the few who dealt with front clips and the only other shop at the time who had them. So I bought it. Had to have a flat bed truck go pick it up because the trucking company said it was too big for a home delivery. They also didnt know a SR20DET from a B18. All in all including everything it cost about 20K to get my motor, though my situation was a bit different because I wanted a clip. Best advice I can give: these companies are sponsors for a reason... they are known to provide great products and stand behind them no questions asked, why not spend a few hundered dollers more to buy something you know will work??? Your dad may even be able to keep his truck.(I apologize for the life story but I really wanted people to see what can happen when trying to save a few hundred dollars)
