Where did this spring come from?

I was getting ready to work on the cylinder head to get it prepped for cleaning. I still had the lifters, valves, springs, etc in the head. As I turned it around to look at the other side I found a spring and cap sitting on the work bench. I HAVE NO IDEA where it came from!!

Anyone know?

When I rebuilt my ka24de I never saw any spring like that.
