Okay, I'd like some opinions on where the phrase "rice" came from. My theory at the moment is that it's derived from "rice burner", or someone pretending to be Japanese, but failing horribly. (As the sterotypical Japanese food is rice.) Normally, this is through the act of attempting to turn a USDM car into a JDM car without any knowledge of the JDM or of cars in general. As of late, I've noticed it's usage slipping to more of a "n00b" thing.

PLEASE note the phrase "without any knowledge" in the above paragraph. (Well, it looks like a paragraph in the preview window :D )

Anyway, where do you think it came from? I noted a post about it being R.I.C.E., but I'm rather inclined to disbelieve it.

Rice- being anything having to do with Asian background. Derived from rice being the majority of food and product in Asia. Ricepatties, rice with all food(most of it).

panther RACER, nice pix, hope ur car look that HOTTRICE- Racing Inspired Car Evolutionmeaning any car with after market parts is a RICE, hence the big wing, aero body kits, and stickers of "sponsors" ( i put that in quotating because unlike race cars, most cars on the street with stickers are not sponsored), but most people are tasteless and they take it too far and take the term to another level, hense the word "RICER"welcome to the board and word of advise "there are no bad cars, only bad drivers"

"rice burner" is what domestic muscles call 4cylinder Japanese car because they think that's all 4 cylinder are good for, it has not thing to do with R.I.C.E., that term is soooo old that it does not apply any more because 4 cylinder Jap car have proved to the domestic market that it is not just a "rice burner" any more

From my point of view, having ALL anti-import friends, a ricer is one who's car is all show, and no go. Ex. A giant wing on the rear of a FWD car, underbody neons, chrome wheels heavier than the engine, and a 6" exhaust tip that sounds like a swarm of bees, while the cat/tubing is stock.

I am the only one that likes imports. Technically I don't hate ricers, just ignorance and my friends are all ignorant to the fact that a japanese 4cyl and 6cyl can get fast. I'll show them. ;)

"Downforce becomes your friend on a front-drive car @ about 90 mph and up. Inefficiency, not weight, is the enemy of performance. Just ask a Nissan Skyline."- Honda Tuning, August 2003.

of course....very few of those hondas reach 90mph...and they DEFINITELY do not need 2 & 3 level 19" high wings lol...

but remember, too much force on the front of the car and the rear wheels will lift up, that could cause the back end to fling about...which would lead to crashing. remember...too much of a good thing...

personally the term RICE is over rated and way over used. i think everyone on this entire forum. anyone that is a memeber here at NICO is a ricer, unless the car they own is domestic.

then your a french fry

http://www.riceboypage.com pretty much either started or made it popular to call out terribly ugly/modified japanese imports "rice" back in the late 90's

Something I read put forth the claim that rice rocket was the first (or one of the first) uses of the term rice in this context. Brought out by Harley riders as a term, not necessarily derrogatory, just a description based on the stereotype of Japanese=rice-fed. (I'm thinking mid 70s, gas crisis, something like that)I think just like with any opem-minded car person, bikers have respect for import bikes based on what they are, so long as the rider isn't a jerk.
