I saw these and thought it was interesting where these car names come from. Did you know any of these? They are a mix of Japan and US cars.

HyperMini: A name for a super small electric vehicle that surpasses the traditional notion of cars. Bluebird Sylphy: Named after Maurice Maeterlink's children's story, "The Blue Bird". "Sylphy" is a word coined from English "sylph", a spirit of the wind (air). It is one of four legendary spirits of earth, water, fire and wind. X-Trail: X as used in X-treme Sports (sports popular among the youths, such as snowboarding, skateboarding, etc.). "TRAIL" represents a footpath, off-road and rough roads. The combined "X-Trail" is a coinage expressing a strong 4x4 image. Moco: A coinage from the Japanese onomatopoeia "moco-moco", meaning fluffy and warm. Representing the round, cute styling of the vehicle. Murano: Named after the island near Venice, Italy, where elegantly sculptured Murano glass is produced. Teana: Comes from a Native American word meaning "dawn." To suit the dawn of an all-new luxury sedan and an elegant ring befitting the car's appearance. Clipper: Comes from the English word "clipper" referring to something that moves swiftly such as a fast horse. Armada: Named after the Greek mythology god. Titan: Named after the Greek mythology god. Tiida: Coined from the English word "tide," referring to the ebb and flow of the ocean. In Okinawan (language spoken in Japan's southern-most island) the word means "the sun." symbolizing equality and richness. Fuga: From the musical term "fugue" in Italian, referring to a musical composition with multiple interwoven melodies. (Tiida) Latio: From the English word "latitude," signifying freedom of action. Lafesta: From the Italian word "festa" meaning holiday, festival or party. The name expresses a desire to spend an enjoyable time in the car together with family members or friends. Note: From the English word "note," signifying both an enjoyable daily rhythm and the recording of daily activities. It suggests the exciting anticipation one feels when beginning a new page in life. Otti: Coined from the Italian word "ottimo," meaning optimum. It expresses the unique product character that optimally balances all essential elements in a mini-vehicle package. Livina: Coined from the English Word "Living". Pino: Includes the meaning of growing up together like a "friend" and being loved for a long time like Pinocchio. Qashqai: Named after West Asian nomads.

Nice, so I guess the Tiida means "equality and richness" because we can have a good quality and comfortable car, paying what our budgets allow us to pay...

Where'd you find this list?

Maxima (meaning most, highest, etc.) was originally the name for the top trim level for the Bluebird (also known as the 810 and 910) before splitting off to become it's own model. The lesser trim for the 810 was the Deluxe.

I imagine the Altima name was just adopted to echo the same feel as "Maxima" since it came later (actually replacing the Bluebird name). After the Maxima split from the line, the North American Bluebird (810) became known as the Stanza, then the Altima. During that first generation after the split, the Stanza and Maxima actually still had quite a bit in common (and, in fact, shared a chassis designation). The Maxima was more luxurious, though, and came with the VG V6 instead of the KA I4.

This list came from our Nissan brand site. They have a list going back to the 50's and have it broken by decade. I listed just the 2000's.
